It isn't KO'd, that means he doesn't take a prize. Almost guarenteed that you won't get KO'd seeing that you remove 4 damage counters.

It is impossible to KO yourself using Volunteer since you remove 4 damage counters first.
Since you are discarding Ninetales, rather than KOing it, your opponent does not take a Prize. If Volunteer had read, "You may Knock Out Ninetales," then your opponent would take a Prize.
You can use multiple Volunteer powers a turn as well, if you can pull more Ninetales δ from your deck.
