So, using either a NES or a emulator (If you want, I'll get links), you play the original SMB.

Sounds easy right? WRONG!

Challenge here is to get to the highest level possible before a game over. Post the level too. So, I lost on world 1-3, so I write 1-2.

1 rule, and one rule only. No warp zone. Break the rule, disqualified.

Anyone can join this!

Ermm... So just play Mario NES and get as far as possible without getting a full game over? Or get as far as possible without dying once? I just played it two weeks ago on my 3DS and beat every level, but only had one life left so obviously many lives were lost and that wouldn't count.

Time to play it again tomorrow I guess. I'll keep track of both stats and post them here.

Okay, I just made it to 6-2 then died. So 6-1 is my record.

It is the original Mario Bros lol, you can download it off of the eShop. It's the Virtual Console version - so basically a $5 emulation/port/whateveryoucallit. It's just the most convenient form for me to play it since you can pause it and put the system in your pockets for later.

I've beaten Super Mario Bros. without getting a Game Over

do I like win an award or something? I wasn't aware this was an accomplishment

now if you can beat Battletoads with no game overs then that's pretty neat

I played this on an original NES Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt cartridge, mind you. Got to 4-2, game froze

First death, first or second run, on 4-2.

Got a game over on 7-3, so that's 7-2, I think?

It was so fun playing that old thing again, I didn't even get it until a few years ago. I still haven't beaten it, farthest I've ever gotten was 8-3. I'll try this again sometime, but I'm to frustrated right now.

Everyone makes this look so easy 0.0 Furthest I got was 1-4, then dang spinning fireballs hit me. Mods, lock this thread!

It's not that the game isn't difficult, it's that you picked so classic of a game. :P

Try something harder... Lost Levels would do better as a get-as-far-as-you-can challenge.

I agree with this, after just a bit of practice I beat the game without getting game over. It isn't so hard once you get the hang of it.

Oh goodness, Lost Levels is torture. That one I've never made it past World 2's castle before getting an entire Game Over. I also just learned this year that there are even harder secret worlds on top of the already nightmarish eight.
