Advice Needed: LA or GE box?

I'm planning on buying my friend a box for his birthday, and I know that those are the 2 sets that he likes the most.

He says that he wants LA in order to make powerful decks, but my concern is that he's already bought around 25 boosters already.

GE on the other hand: he has never bought a pack yet. So I think it would be better if I buy a GE box instead, since he'd be getting new cards instead of risking to get several copies that he'd probably already gotten from his earlier 25 boosters (if I bought him an LA box).

I'm really torn on which to buy.
I know he likes a lot of cards from LA, but I think buying GE would be the smarter choice.

Advice please?

PS: I think he really wants a Darkrai Lv. X, which is another reason why I'm leaning towards GE.

Also, I won't wait for Stormfront. His birthday is on the 23rd. x_x. Thanks! :)

i would say legends awakened, it has so many good cards but if he needs stuff like pachi, claydol, togekiss, i would get ge

and does he know you are getting him a box?

Darkrai is from the tins, so it's easy to get. The only good/playable cards in GE are Pachi, Rare Candy and Claydol. And nowadays, lots of decks use Jirachi LA rather than Pachi, Uxie LA rather than Claydol, and Rare Candy can also be found in one of the POP packs. And LA is just dominating the format as we speak, just browse the deck garage (and ignore all SF/GC decks)

Yeah, LA does have a lot of good cards, but I just fear that he'd get too many same copies as the cards he already has.

I don't think he has any real "wants" from GE, but I just thought it'd be better if I bought him a box from a set he'd never bought from before.

And no =P he doesn't know. Well, I hope not. I do ask him from time to time what his favorite set is, and LA or GE was always his answer. :)

well you should ask him what his most favorite set is or what cards does he need from those sets

But it would be better if I got him the real Darkrai Lv. X from the set instead, rather than the promo card from tins. And my main concern again is that if I buy him LA, he might get second copies of cards he already has. :(

Still, I do know that LA is an awesome set. Thanks so much! :)

Uhuh, he said that his favorite sets were LA and GE. No definite decision. I know he wants a lot of cards from LA though, but as I know, he has most of them already. I don't think he wants anything from GE aside from the Darkrai Lv.X and probably Claydol x_x. But I just thought it'd be a good addition to his collection. Thank you though :)

if you could, you could like get 18 LA and 18 GE lol

that could work

but if no, i don't know what set you should get him, but it really doesn't matter because he knows that it came from your heart

I would go with GE you need claydol for most decks

but sadly I do not have one XD
Yeah. :p I only got 2 from the GE box I bought, so even then, I wouldn't be so sure if he'd get around that number if I do buy him a GE box. Thank you. :)

Hmm... maybe.:p. But I'd probably stick to LA then. He'd probably benefit from most of the cards there, as compared to GE. Thank you so much! You've been a great help! :)

Last time I checked, the promo worked just as well in decks as the GE one. Or is the reason he wants it for his omg?! shiny rareness? Also, same goes for multiple copies: most decks play with 4 copies of certain cards since that are useful to play 4 of, for instance I don't see why any player doesn't need 4 copies of his starter/ and main attacker of choice.

La rocks because he'll get most at least one lv.x!
LOL!!!I just nocied that his birthday is the same as my sister's
LOL!!=] :) =/

your welcome =]
and ge will probably be gone after this year

still LA is like one of the best sets

Get him an LA box... definately... Kingdra's, Luxray's, AMU's, GLiscor (both X and rare)... there's just bunch of the great cards.
Claydol's price is beggining to fall... people are starting to think with their own heads anyway... just buy the LA one, you can't make a mistake.
P.S. Wanna be my friend? My B.day is coming up soon. ^^

How competitive is your friend? If he goes to all the tournaments, and gets really into the competitive side of the TCG, I would think that you would probably want to get him an LA Box, because if he already has some, he will most likely want a few more so that he can complete some of the pokemon lines, since most decks use multiple copies of the main attacking line.

If your friend is a person that isn't that much into the Competitive nature of the TCG, I think GE would be the way to go. It has a lot of cards in it that can be helpfull to decks (such as Claydol, Felecitie's Drawing, Rare Candy, and Premier Ball), and has a lot of cool cards that could be used as a fun deck that still has what it takes to win, such as Blaziken, Darkrai Lv.X, Porygon-Z, Beedrill, Butterfree, Altaria, Exploud, and Houndoom. All thouse cards can give a player a very fun and easy to use deck that still has the ability to win.

But really, it's the thought that counts. If you want to show him you really do care about him, than it doesn't really matter. The fact that you care and know enough about him to get him one of his favorit expansions would really be a great way to show your friendship.

Perhaps you could find out some of his favorit pokemon, and then see if thouse pokemon can be found in either LA or GE.

Yes. Darkrai XD. But it's the ONLY thing he likes from GE. So I've decided to go with LA.

He does seem like a competitive person... He's the one who got me into the game again, and I know he joined some tournament last summer.

I've seen him play, and he's pretty good. (that or I must suck :p)

But thanks everybody! I've already reserved for a box of LA. Hope he appreciates the gift (who wouldn't XD).
Thanks again! :)

Well, LA is a good set for people wanting to get enough copies of cards to make a good deck.

Glad we all could help.
