New player preparing a deck for competitive play. Any feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Get rid of the Sandshrew and Sandslash for Remoraid BKP 32 and Octillery. See my build if you want a good budget reference. I have tweaked that build since but you should get the gist of it. Oh and if you can get your hands on a couple of Lele the Remoraid and Octillery aren't really needed.

No lele luck today, tried my hand at 5 boosters. Thanks for the advice! Really liking your build, not on too much of a budget but still too new to the game to spend more than 10-12$ on a single card until I get out and play, just waiting on a few cards in the mail.

I have deck tested a little but with this list, and found it to be pretty successful. Here is my Alolan Ninetales deck.

Pokemon: 16

2 Alolan Nintales(Pretty standard 3-2 Alolan Ninetales line.)
3 Alolan Nintales GX(Pretty standard 3-2 Alolan Ninetales line.)
4 Alolan Vulpix(4 Alolan Vulpix is standard in these decks.)
1 Manaphy EX(I like the constant option of retreating because you hit for 160, and if you don't have the energy to hit again just retreat.)
2 Octillery(Helps with draw power, and consistency.)
2 Remoraid
2 Tapu Lele GX

Trainers: 30

Items
4 Aqua Patch
3 Choice Band(Helps hit the high numbers like 180.)
2 Field Blower
4 Ultra Ball
1 Rescue Stretcher

Supporters
3 Guzma(I think most decks need the run 3 in the new format.)
4 Professor Sycamore
4 N
1 Sophocles(Helps put energies in discard if you need them.)
2 Mallow(With Octillery this works so well in my opinion.)
1 Professor Kukui(Helps hit 180 without Choice or 210 with.)
1 Brigette(Pretty standard in this deck.)

Energy: 14
10 Water Energy(This more than most lists, but I like having extras if you have space.)
4 Double Colorless Energy

This deck list has been pretty solid for me so far. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, Got a few more cards on the way but thinking of taking out both tapu fini and adding in more trainer cards. The idea behind tapu fini was to snipe on bench, but it starts to take the focus from the rest of the deck. I think on it's own with some BUS Kingdra it would make its own deck. Also cutting back on kukui and lana in favor of sycamores and more N. Really learning a lot from this fourm, so it's great to see what I'm doing wrong and right as a new player.

Yea going with 4 Kukui is a little bit overboard. Run the more consistent N and Professor Sycamore. I also agree that dropping the Lana count is beneficial. I honestly don't think Lana should be in this deck, but we all have different preferences and play styles. I have heard of people playing Tapu Fini, but I have never seen it played competitively. You are just focusing to much on sniping if you ask me when you include that. Also looking at your list I would highly suggest you run a Brigette. It is such a good card and will help the consistency of your deck a lot. Here are the changes I would make.

-2 Tapu Fini(Focusing too much on sniping.)
-2 Alolan Sandshrew
-2 Alolan Sandslash(This is not needed.)
-2 Tapu Koko(I also don't think you need this, but if you want you can run 1.)
-2 Glaceon EX(I personally wouldn't run this, but I could see running 1 in your deck.)
-3 Professor Kukui(You have no draw support, and don't need this much extra damage.)
-1 Lana(I would 2 or even 3, but if you really like this card.)
-2 Evosoda(Ultra is way more efficient and you can use Alolan Vulpix to find evolutions.)
-2 Professor's Letter(Just run 2 more energies in replacement for this because you need more energies on the field.)
-2 Brooklet Hill(With Brigette and Alolan Vulpix's attack this is not required.)

+2 Octillery(This will help with draw support.)
+2 Remoraid
+2 Tapu Lele(If you have it use if not run heavier support lines.)
+2 N(Almost every deck in the format including Alolan Ninetales runs 4 N.)
+4 Professor Sycamore(Almost every deck in the format including Alolan Ninetales runs 4 Professor Sycamore.)
+2 Ultra Ball(4 Ultra Ball is a staple in most decks.)
+1 Brigette(This card is very good for this deck, so I highly suggest you use it.)

These are the changes I would say you have to make to play a good Alolan Ninetales list. I didn't use up 5 cards that I dropped, so you have some extra space to work with. There are more cards I would personally drop and more cards I would add, but those aren't required. If you need suggestions you can look at my list or ForeverRangers. I hope this helps.

This was a great help. Got octillery, remoraid, n and sycamore all on order now. I feel like tapu fini and koko could work well together in their own deck. Tapu lele is going to be the tough addition, not spending that much on a single until I start going to the pokemon nights around here regularly. Buying nothing but GR packs in hopes of pulling one though.

The explanations really help as well. This is my first deck attempt so with your feedback I can see where I'm crowding my deck too much and playing cards I like or find interesting over cards that work well together. What do you mean by heavier support lines? and is a 3 gx and 2 baby ninetales a good ratio?

I think 3 Alolan Ninetales GX and 2 baby Alolan Ninetales is the perfect number. When I say "heavier support lines" I mean you need less 1 of supporters because you can't search them out, and more draw support. Fortunately you run Octillery so this is one of the decks where you don't need Lele as much. Here are the changes I would make until you get a Lele.

-2 Tapu Lele GX
-1 Brigette(No point if you can't search it out because it is only useful turn 1.)

+1 Professor Kukui(You need Professor Kukui to hit higher numbers and it provides some draw support.)
+1 Sophocles(Helps with draw support because you can't be dead Dawes without Lele in your deck.)
+1 Field Blower(3 is becoming a more common count for how many Field Blowers people run.)

Obviously if your not willing to spend the money your not willing to spend the money, but if you can buying 1 Lele makes your deck so much better. Having just 1 Lele makes your deck competitive and will do the trick. It's expensive I know, but buying your first one is well worth the price. You can argue you will be more successfull in tournaments which cost money, so are really not losing as much money as you think because you are winning it back in the form of packs. Trust me Lele does makes a huge difference in how competitive your deck is. I hope this helps.

Thanks a lot! Once my order of singles arrives, I'll be able to run some tests with your suggestions. I like the way you run it, makes the deck a bit tighter and play better. Eventually I do want a few lele at some point, I just want to try my luck a bit more before I bite the bullet and buy a single.
