Ancient Origins [8/15, aka Bandit Ring]

Mega Tyranitar is disappointing. 110+60 for something we aren't sure yet. Well if it does have Entei's Ancient Trait at least he can have a Spirit Link and a Hard Charm so he won't be OHKO'd by Colorless M Rayquaza.

I can think of a deck built around him and that is Bats. Use Bats to place damage on Pokemon and OHKO most things even Colorless M Rayquaza! The only problem is that the deck will be crammed and very tight. With no good walls to hide behind during setup. Since Bats is an evolution deck it's gonna take a long time to setup. Especially with crap draws even with so many hand refreshers.

I actually like the art on these cards.

As for playability, not sure. But we're still getting the full arts guys.

This is one of those rare instances where the 5ban Graphics artwork is better than the specialists' artwork; poor Eske Yoshinob got stuck with Tyranitar, and it's hard to pose in a way that makes it look good. (The 3D model is out there, you can try for yourself if you're skilled!) Mega Tyranitar is also hard to work with, but somehow the Mega Tyranitar card art looks better than the regular Tyranitar. Yikes.

On the flipside, I love decks that use attacks like Kyurem/Reshiram/Zekrom's Outrage, so seeing Destroyer King makes me so happy!

Mega T-Tar, Shining Robe + Spirit Link, Ariados on bench... Although it is terribly slow to set up with four energy cost...
Also, in the translation, Mega Tyranitar's HP is stated as 180.
And let us pray that the full-arths will be better.

That mega, though. Could you imagine with frozen city/Team Magma's Secret Base? 230 damage! Not to mention two tool cards. Mmmmm. Yes, please.

Basic Tyranitar-EX is obviously not that good, but complaints about it probably shouldn't be there. We've been kind of spoiled by things like Manectric-EX and Lucario-EX, so it's nice to know that Tyranitar isn't being broken in the same way Sceptile was.

That Mega Evolution is great. Double Tools is still awesome as ever, and the attack is crazy if you want to make some absurd numbers. It actually has quite a bit of synergy with Bad Energy, but Forretress FLF is infinitely better, and Giant Plant Forest means that you can spam them since Pineco is a Basic!
Mega Tyranitar isn't without hurdles, though. First off, you're going to have a very hard time putting 4 Energy on this guy without the use of Mega Turbo (which can be Item Locked), and Theta Double is (teehee) a 'double-edged sword' here because of the aformentioned double Head Ringer. The Fighting Weakness and 4 Retreat are really bad, but at least you can remedy the Weakness with Weakness Policy. As for the Retreat Cost, no Darkrai-EX anymore, folks!

Baby Yveltal to accelerate energy and do damage?

Baby Yveltal to accelerate energy and do damage?
I guess it could work, but it gives your opponent a lot of time to react and will need at least 2 or 3 uses to get 1 powered up. I actually think that Hydreigon PHF could work very well, but it clogs it up so much that Forretress becomes close to impossible to run in here.

This is not what I was hoping for (I was so looking forward to this too). It almost seems like another mega gallade (which is not really my cup of tea). I'm not saying its unplayable, just not the kind of thing I see myself playing. I do like the theta double on a mega so it can have a tool other than the spirit link. I agree that the art is not great either.

I wish they made the regular ex's somehow interact with their respective mega. The ex could have an attack that accelerates energy onto itself, then the mega doing 40 times the amount of energy attached to it, or maybe the ex has an ability that the mega benefits from (this kind of synergy would be really neat if you ask me). Guess i'll just wait and see what M ampharos does.

Also do you guys think there will be three Theta traits like there was delta (M ampharos having the last one), so far i have only seen stop and double?

I love M Tyranitar-EX's attack! Wow! It will work very well as "late game sweeper" with the help of those spread damage cards (bats, Flasfhire Forretress etc etc), I really love how it could hit for insane damage!

Or combine it with Mega Turbo. Yveltal is there by your side to back you up in case you get Item locked. And with Trevenant being weak to Dark it shouldn't be that hard. Toad also is hurt by Xerosic more than ever.

Just drop an Absol so move 3 damage counters to the active and hit anything for 290 base.

With the LTC ban item lock is going to be seldom seen so Mega Turbo + DCE to power this up won't be too difficult, the format is going to be pretty slow now anyway.

WoW! Now we're talking! Great card with great potential (M Tyranitar).

"ZaP!" Sneaky Bite and "BoOm!" 230 damage!! Not to mention that it can carry 2 tools ^.^ Equip with double hard charm... or new tools that haven't been introduced yet :p It's nice to see OP Ancient traits! Every single one of them (Barrier, Growth, Evolution, Double) is OP in its own way. Ancient traits are a great addition to the TCG :)

now the "bad" thing is the energy accel... Hmmm... we'll see... --.--

p.s. The artwork is kinda "meh"... 5ban Graphics were better with Roaring Skies... the same applies to Yoshinob...

"Pokemon! Bring Back Shizurow!!!"

I really like the art for both Tyranitar-EX and his Mega, and I usually don't care much for EX art. The EX isn't very playable as others have said; even in decks where self-bench damage can be used to your advantage, the cost is too high to be consistent.

The Mega, though, is great. There are currently tons of ways to spread damage, so M-Tyranitar should be hitting pretty hard.

Yea they could of done alot better with the artwork for both Mttar and ttar. Im not one to ususally be picky but this is obviously lazy artwork. Oh well , at least the rest of the ex's are awesome!! Lol I have a feeling the artwork of the full art will make up for this lack of creativity.

No Item lock is still gonna be the winner of the format. M Rayquaza will be unbalanced if people didn't play Seismitoad EX uh hmm excuse me Trevenant+Wally ft. Shaymin EX. They lost some power with LTC's ban but they're still strong contenders. And Vileplume can be powered up in one turn even if its your first! :)
