Gurren Lagann is, indeed, super awesome, but he did just say his giant robot fights are covered. Whenever you're feeling up to mecha again, Rhaegar, it's definitely worth checking out. One of my favourite shows, and probably the best thing to come out of Gainax.
For a more traditional sci-fi series (with a healthy dose of cyberpunk) with awesome fights but no giant robots, I highly recommend Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, and it's sequel, Ghost in the Shell: SAC 2nd GIG. Each series is 26 episodes, so 52 total. It is more mature (in terms of plot and subject matter, not, like, the nudity kind of "mature"), moreso than most of the series you mentioned, but probably on-par with Evangelion, maybe aimed slightly older. It has some excellent storytelling and characterization, and is very suspenseful. The art, animation, and music are also pretty top tier.
