Are Fairy Decks Competitive?

Hey guy, I just joined so I'm a bit new. I've been looking to invest in a standard play deck. I love fairy and I have a few Mega Gardevoir. The only thing is I can't find a good route to go. Are fairy just bad right now? New new Sylveon ex (generations) looks pretty cool.

I just can't figure out a good way to do fairy. I was thinking maybe fairy and DD some fire in there.

Any advice would help. Maybe if you knew some good combos to look into

Thanks.

Edit: Just saw something. Maybe Talonflame (phantom) with some of these cards that negate damage? And there are quite a bit of heals. So take advantage of the fire attacks that damage itself?

Edit: Just saw Flareon (origins), where its fire as well as its own type. which could be cool for taking out metal.

Using Aromatisse XY + Fairy Garden + Max Potion gives you mad flexibility, meaning you can retreat anything for free. I personally use that engine in combination with M Gardevoir-EX and Geomancy Xerneas, getting as many [Y] Energy in play as possible, (keeping only 3 on Gardevoir at a time, however) powering up Brilliant Arrow. Lugia-EX also fits pretty well as a backup attacker.

The main catch, however, is that Aromatisse is rotating after Worlds, so your time with this particular build is limited.

While the various archetypes built around Fairy Pokemon are probably not the most powerful at the moment, they are a few archetypes that are still competitive. Unfortunately most of these are or will be better suited for Expanded, after the rotation. These archetypes are Fairy Toolboxes (which is very similar to Rainbow Road), Mega Gardevoir-EX (which is what Shiny Shinx is describing) and Rainbow Road (Xerneas BKT). There's also Florges-EX or straight Fairy variants, but I haven't heard of those ones for a while.

Unfortunately Talonflame PHF isn't all that great, as Fairy decks will need the space for something else. Many Fairy Toolboxes from the Expanded Format will use the V-Create Victini of NVI to counter metal types.

So. for the Talonflame was the only one I saw. Are there other cards that are better that could make use of the Kelfki combo? Like high risk high reward where next turn you take extra damage or something? I still don't know all of the cards yet, that was me just scrolling through.

Second, would you advise not making a deck with Gardevoir? Should I invest in that rainbow road build? Im more or less looking for a starting point, something I could invest money into and tweak as I go, but if I could get a deck with my Gardevoir it would cut some costs.

Thanks guys.

I'm not sure which Klefki you're talking about, to be honest. If you're referring to the Furious Fists one, then I don't think revolving your deck around it would be a good idea. It's more a 1-off tech card that can be used if Dark decks become T1 and are used everywhere, or if you're expecting a bad matchup against them.

I would advise Rainbow Road over Gardevoir personally. Rainbow Road is probably a bit better than Gardevoir, and it is more flexible. For an example, if Metal becomes really popular, Mega Gardvoir will have a hard time winning games and you can't make many tweaks. On the other hand, Rainbow Road decks can have a bit more focus on [R] types to counter [M] types during those matchups, and is more flexible in that way. That said, I think it mostly should depend on which deck you like the most. Perhaps search up a free TCG emulator or print off proxies, and try out a couple of games with each deck and see which style you like the best. Good luck! =D

Cool thanks, Is that link a good one to get?

I would love to post in deck garage, but I don't want to post there without some sort of set. I would be posting the same thing like "hey make a deck for me". I would feel like a scrub. lol

With the whole Breakthrough and I cant remember when they said siege will come out. Is there anything you recommend me look for in that?

I will try to read that and try to get a feel for how things work.

Also I realized the Charizard (generations) can do a max of 3k damage in theory. That's nuts!

I mean once you've designed a 60-card decklist, then I would recommend you post it to get feedback. =P

Steam Seige will be the first set to release the dual type mechanic, which will significantly boost Xerneas' power. I'd imagine that Volcanion will be an automatic inclusion, and perhaps a few others.

Some Pokemon can do 9k+, but you can only do that if your opponent runs the right deck and the two of you are intentionally trying to hit the most damage possible. :p

I don't usually advocate straight-up buying a deck from a list online without more research. That's an Expanded list, as well, and I'd say Standard is a much more common format and a better entry point for new players.

Rainbow Road for PCL-on Standard does look interesting, though. I love the deck and am eager to try it out with some of its new toys in Steam Siege - primarily Volcanion-EX and Ninja Boy. It would be a fun one to look into if you'd like a Fairy-type attacker :)

Yeah for sure. still trying to find a good combo for the siege Klefki:

Looks good man. Any thoughts assuming that is official?

Not sure that's the kind of card to build a deck around, but if Megas prove to be as popular as some are thinking then Klefki might find its way into some decks.
