Talonflame didn't bother me too much until a friend pointed out that they should have spelled it "Talinflame", because then it wouldn't look as dumb and it would have an actual identifiable pun.

Agreed with you there, Frezgle. A simply letter change would make a huge difference -- and would put it on the same level as 'Honedge' (two words essentially combined with the pun intersecting the words).

Some people have been speculating that Honeedge might be more in depth. Some pokemon have one in their names (in different languages, later 2, 3) and they ended up meaning a legendary trio and a pokemon that gets more heads. The Japanese names also support one: Hitotsuki, as hitotsu means one. Could honedge have something to do with three (or any other number for that matter)?

I think the names are the least of our worries for this generation tbh. That's why nicknames exist.

I think the Pokemon Company could have put a little more work into some of the names, but I'm not complaining. Like Ohman said, we can always nickname our Pokemon if we don't like their species name.

Pokemon names have always been punny. I never cared too much about them outside of spelling (Feraligatr bothers me).

That was done because of the character limit, though.

Yes, exactly what I meant by "two words essentially combined with the pun intersecting the words." I meant that the one was intersecting.
