Art Program Recommendations

This is in the wrong place, sorry.... move it to the correct spot if you r a mod, please. and tell me where you put it.

I need a program that can do transparencies and perhaps a program other than paint that's really good for doing sprites. Thanks a bunch. (link to a download, if possible) :)

Yeah, this is probably more suited for the art forums/general discussion.

GIMP is a pretty good program though, haven't used it much but from what I remember it was pretty intuitive and easy to use.

Yeah, but GIMP isn't free....
And I put the thread here by mistake. Thinking it was just plain General Discussion, not TCG Discussion.

Just FYI, you can Report the thread (which I did) or PM a Mod to get it moved. Also, GIMP is free, but it has a terrible interface and is hard to use. If you have any money, get Photoshop. For Sprites, you can get Pixin, which is free. I don't think we're allowed to link to them, just google it.

Gimp's good enough if, like me, you don't have the budget for Photoshop. If memory serves, Photoshop can be very expensive...

If you look for it in the right place it isn't that expensive. My mom found my photoshop CS3 on eBay for a lot less.

May I suggest Macromedia/Adobe Fireworks- specifically MX or some other higher variation of it? Fireworks has the capability for a better px-by-px workout than I found Photoshop has, and while it has a lot fewer features it does its job quite well and has all the layer aspects you could want for the most part (like layer opacity, screening a layer, multiplying it, etc). I'd suggest it over Photoshop if you're looking for spriting and/or something easier to use.

bah photoshop, $700 for software is overkill. corel draw, it's not as free flowing as photoshop but it's better for graphic design... if you know what your doing, yes corel has vector's there just a pain to find. sai, it's 50 or 60 for it, you pay online, it's better then gimp, it's free flowing like photoshop but you might as well get photoshop if you want to do more with it. Then back to photoshop, there's 3 major one's right now, lightroom, element's and CS5 (I miss the days of good old 7), I prefer the use of CS5 extended or photoshop 9 (good old 9) because it allows more flexibility. if your wanting to do pixels, as dimension posted use pixin. cya

P.S. photoshop is art fireworks is vector.

Photo-shop if you can get a legal non-virus serial code generator (ha...ha)
But yeah GIMP is one of the best, photo-shop is used by the best, if you wanna make anything worth sharing globally it's worth photo-shop.
I know no-one who uses fireworks

Illustrator IS best for vectors. If you're gonna be doing any sort of animating with vectors, though, I suggest Flash.

Fireworks is meant to work hand and hand with Dreamweaver, given the slicing tools and the like. It has some simple filters like blur and two brushes. I've done artwork on it before, but Photoshop CS-CS5 is definitely the way to go with artwork, as you can manipulate your own brushes and make use of more settings for it.

i thought we were talking art not planing the creation of a video game (fan based pokemon tcg, mwhahahaha... *drools*), sai is better then gimp (sai is like an upgraded version of gimp), if you haven't used sai yet there's a 15 day trail on the site. for mac studio artist is good, deviant art recently put up a cg drawing based modulator, paint.net it's ok I think but it work's. cya
