Ruling Attack Problem

Hi Guys.

Sorry, but I get this doubt again and again.

My Aggron [PK] an attack Mix Up, says your opponent discards the top card of his or her deck. And the damage is 70. What should we use, 70 damage or discard the opponents card? I have so many cards with an attack saying to do something without damage and there will be also a base damage.
Pls help me with this

It sais his or her deck and noth the opponents deck so for such an impressive damage i think u have to discard ur own card... Well in the case of dark marowak, to use a damage of 70 a move called "Hard Bone" can be used.. But it only works if u discard a basic or evolved pokemon in play so yeah same rules here too i guess as ridiculous as it seems...

You will do both because 70 is the damage & the "your opponent discards the top card of his or her deck" is an effect which is part of the attack...

It's just like you say. It's just base damage, but almost always with a certain condition to meet (flip coins, discard energies, discard cards, laugh at the dying opponent, etc.) All the text under the attack should be met before placing actual damage and stuff.

Not quite StealthAngle.

The rule is do damage and then any other effects of the attack. So in this case you would place 70 damage and then your opponent would have to discard a card. Though you are quite correct that if an attack requires you to be able to discard energy you have to be able to do that in order for the attack to be "legal." Still, even then, you do the damage first and then discard.

When they say "Your opponent discards the top card of his or her deck" It means its an Effect of the attack so u do both the damage and the Effect, which in this case the effect is "your opponent to discards the top card of his or her deck"

Yeah I meant it the way you said. I meant, read the card first before doing anything with the number on the right (since attacks like Hoothoot's Surprise Attack might do 0 damage if you flip tails, this is very important).

do the damage, then apply the effects. if the effect condition the damage use the effect first.(flip a coin, 50+, if...,etc). if the effect says "you may..." you can choose if you do it or not (the effect). if it dont say "you may..." you have to do it.
Aggron would do 70 damage, and then discard the top card of your opponents deck.

Energy discards are a special case. For everything else, prerequisites, then damage, then secondary effects.

The Rulebook said:
a) If the Defending Pokémon is a Baby Pokémon, flip a coin to see if your turn ends without an attack. (If your turn ends without an attack, do not do any of the other steps. You are done now.)
b) Announce which attack your Active Pokémon is using. Make sure your Pokémon has enough Energy attached to it to use this attack.
c) If necessary, make any choices the attack requires you to make. (For example, Sneasel’s Feint Attack reads, "Choose 1 of your opponent’s Pokémon." So, you choose now.)
d) If necessary, do anything the attack requires you to do in order to use it. (For example, Dark Marowak’s Hard Bone attack reads, "Discard a Basic Pokémon or Evolution card from your hand or this attack does nothing.")
e) If necessary, apply any effects that might alter or cancel the attack. (For example, if your Pokémon was hit last turn by Hippopotas’s Sand Attack, Sand Attack reads that if you tried to attack with that Pokémon during your next turn, you should flip a coin. If tails, that attack does nothing)
f) If your Active Pokémon is Confused, check now to see if the attack fails.
g) Do whatever the attack says. Do any damage first, then do any other effects, and finally, Knock Out any Pokémon that have damage greater than or equal to their Hit Points.
