Is this why you're having trouble with that Claydol? It makes sense - I always assumed this was the reason why. (I mean, what are you going to do with someone who's symmetrical along four different axes?)Xous said:That's the problem - the only visible "facial" features are its eyes, which are located within its wheel shape. So if I draw it head-on, the eyes can't be seen. If I draw it from the side or even tilted somewhat, it just looks like Sugimori's art.
Official art features it either viewed from the side or tilted somewhat, so it doesn't look different from Sugimori's art at all. In the end, I'm probably just going to draw it somewhat from the front, just enough so that its eye is still visible, and maybe add some effects to make it look like it's spinning and tearing through the ground.

Xous said:That's definitely what I'd do if we had an official reference for such a thing, but unfortunately every image I've seen of it has it in a wheel shape.
And to DNA: That's definitely part of the problem (at least with its head), but unfortunately it's also due to a lack of motivation.

DNA said:1) Even on Google Images or DeviantArt? I know people can get pretty creative at times and I bet there's at least one concept picture of an uncurled Whirlipede. Then again, that could just be 'Scolipede'.
2) How about now? Someone drew that just for me at a Cities not too long ago...
That is the second most amazing thing I've heard all dayI've decided an angry-looking Claydol (after I saw how its eyes look when it's angry) with it rushing at the viewer with one of its arms pointed out (as if ready to charge a beam or fire a beam at the viewer) is what I'm going with. (Basically, like the Tornadus in Futachimaru's post.)
Xous said:1.) I've looked everywhere, but I can't find any official media that shows it uncurled. Anime, Manga, Games... It always appears curled up. Neither of its 'Dex entries even hint at it being able to uncurl, so I think its body is simply stuck in that shape.
And to Lucky Fire: I can easily imagine how it would look if it could uncurl and draw it, but with my official-style art, I'm keeping things official - I'm keeping it as officially accurate as possible. (Like the number of teeth, spikes, shapes of body parts, etc.) When making artwork I make sure to reference many different official sources to make sure the Pokémon is accurate. There's no official media that shows it being able to uncurl, so I can't really just make artwork of it being uncurled (at least for my official-style art).
