BW/BW2 B/W Pokemon based on?

I was almost certain that Minezumi is based on a prairie dog. My reasoning for that is because it was called the 'Lookout' pokemon. Prairie Dogs are well known for standing on their hind legs to watch for predators.

I think Musharna is based on a baby Tapir. But if Musharna is based off a baby tapir then what animal is Munna based from?An Ultra Baby Fetus Tapir?XD

But Minezumi has a mask and a bit of fluff on it's tail... I can't think of any rodents that have both. Chipmunks do have a mask, but their entire tail is big and fluffy. prairie dogs have neither a mask nor a fluffy tail.

Didn't notice the Indian themes with the eagle. It must be a bald eagle then.

Don't kitsunes have many tails? Wasn't ninetails already based on a Kitsune? I don't know much about Asian mythology. I just listed the animals that I think they look like the most. ;) I'll leave the cultural and mythological speculation to others.

Red foxes do exist in Asian countries, so the kitsune myths are most likely based on the red fox. The red fox is known as a trickster, and often also a shapeshifter, in European mythology as well.
From Bulbapedia:
Zoroark is likely based on kitsune of Japanese folklore, a shape-shifting mythical fox that would trick unsuspecting travelers for fun. This is similar to Ninetales, another Pokémon based on kitsune.

Carizard and Dragonite are both based off of European dragons. Why can't Zoroark and Ninetales both be kitsunes? (And Zoroark is more of a kitsune ;) )
And a Kitsune is said to look like a red fox btw ;)

Maybe they are different prenatal stages of the tapir. xD Because Musharna looks like fetus too.

I wasn't trying to disprove what you said. :) I just thought that kitsunes always have multiple tails. But I looked it up, and they are said to gain tails during their life. So I take back what I said.

Yeah I thought it was a chipmunk originally but the description of 'Lookout pokemon' threw me a little. Let's face it - they probably pick and choose rodent traits from a variety of sources. I doubt anyone would be right in saying it's just one rodent specifically.

Oh sorry. I thought you were. :p And I thought Tsutaja was a long nosed whip snake? It has a yellow band going on it's back which also reminds me of him, see:

I do think that would be a bit strange. The previous regional "rodents" were all based on real life animals. But they were all well known animals (ferrets, rats, beavers etc.), so it's probably not some very rare and unknown rodent either... Maybe it's evolution will make it more obvious?

DarkLucario, the green vine snake and the long-nosed whip snake are the same species (Ahaetulla nasuta). ;)

What if its obviously that animal we're talking about? I mean... Pokabu is obviously a pig. If people disagree, there must be something wrong here xD

Oh well, i'm backing mine up with that they look like it. Its only Hihidaruma and Tsutaja that is my guesses because of their names :b

The point is I don't want every other post to be in here OMG IT'S "insert animal" and the other posts to be NO IT'S NOT and back and forth. >__> Just think a little bit about your posts and point out the obvious things then. Even if they're obvious to YOU doesn't mean they're obvious to everyone else.

dmaster out.

It's not unheard of for them to take features of various different (yet similar) animals and put them together to make a Pokemon that doesn't necessarily seem based on any one animal. For instance, the Nidorans. See here -

It's long, but you can get the idea from the first page or two.

Cute Nidoran :p

Yep, that's true. Let's not forget Eevee, the original melting pot of generic mammal traits.

Hihidaruma = Gorilla

Just to say, Hihidaruma is based of a baboon and a Daruma Doll.

'Hihi' is Japanese for baboon. And 'daruma' obviously points to the Daruma Doll.

Picture of a Daruma Doll:

That's odd. Baboons walk with their palms flat:

Gorillas walk on their fists, like hihidaruma does too.

So that's why hihidaruma looked more like a gorilla to me. And also the fact that the back side is lower then the frontside, and it doesn't appear to a tail.

Tsutaaja: Snake
Pokabu: Pig/Boar
Mijumaru: Sea Otter
Chiramii: Chinchilla
Munna: Tapir
Musharna: Bigger Tapir
Giaru: Gears
Mamepato: Pigeon
Hihidaruma: A gorilla/dharma doll
Shimama: Zebra
Meguroko: Crocodile
Rankurusu: A Cell?
Gochiruzeru: Marley!!!
Koromori: Honduran bat
Kibago: Some type of dragon, forgot its name.
Minezumi: Chipmunk?
Wargle: Eagle
Moguryu: Mole
Doryuzu: Bigger mole!
Onokusu: (considering how it is probably Ononokusu's pre evo) Dragon, or mantis
Ononokusu: Mantis or dragon
Desukan: Sarcophagus
Denchura: Tarantula
Gigaiasu: Tank... thing.
Mamanbo: fish.
Hatooboo: Bigger pigeon
Zorua: black Kitsune?
Zoroark: BIGGER black Kitsune?
Reshiram: Natural Dragon
Zekrom: Technological Dragon

I'm not sure if people have heard this before, but I think the floral pattern on Munna might have to do with the Lotus Eaters from Greek Mythology.
Since Munna and her evolution have to do with dreams, it would make sense. In the Greek legend, the lotus plant caused those who ate it to sleep and dream in peaceful apathy.
It's just speculation, but it could provide some explanation to their designs.

I think muuna and musharna are based off this chinese tea thing because someone posted a photo a while ago with this pig tea set and it had smoke coming from it's nose like the smoke coming from musharna.

according to wikipedia, japanese mythology states tapirs are said to eat dreams. hence, the drowzee line, and to an extent, musharna, with its ~dreamy internet smoke~ and stuff.

I'm not sure the exact name of it, but I think Tsutaaja is based on a flying snake. They don't actually fly but moreso glide from tree to tree. Tsutaaja has the large leaves on its shoulders and also the large tail that, theoretically, could help it "glide" along. That being said, I won't be so certain until we know its final typings.
