RE: Bacon's Art Thread- Robots (pew pew), moles and bad drawings added
Apparently Celebi is one of the best Gyarados counters in the game. I never really saw it myself. I mean...
...
really?
There ya go dmaster, hope you like it. No doubt you'll spot a couple of my anatomical mistakes in this pic though! Eyes were left blank on purpose because I do love me some evil Pokes.
Competitive analysis errrrr well Gyarados is a pretty predictable fellow but he's still a force to be reckoned with, usage stats will tell you that much. While best known for his ability to rip teams apart with high attack and a stellar offensive movepool, his amazing typing coupled with Intimidate allows Gyarados to perform a solid defensive role too. Just don't get too greedy with those switches because Stealth Rock is the bane of Gyara's existence.
Offensive Dos has plenty of paper counters. Vaporeon is the best in the game with Hidden Power Electric, and our unfortunate friend Celebi does pretty well with Grass Knot or Leaf Storm. Rotom-a can take a hit and kill Gyarados with Thunderbolt or Discharge. But remember, Gyarados can hit
hard, so remember to keep them at a reasonably high health. Gyarados isn't particularly quick at base 81 Speed, so even if he gets a Dragon Dance in you are still perfectly capable of revenging with a Scarfed Poke.
Defensive Dos will almost always be using the Rest and Sleep Talk combo, as well as Waterfall. The final attack is either going to be Roar or Dragon Dance. So yeah, he doesn't really have the element of surprise on his side. While a x4 Electric weakness and susceptibility to Stealth Rock limit his walling potential, a defensive dos is still going to be taking many of your hits and making life a pain in general.
I'll work on Articuno next, that tail is going to be fun to shade. And once again, thanks for all the comments people, I really appreciate it : )
@ Comments below:
sonicyellow: Thanks! I didn't forget about the second whisker, though. I think that, given the angle I drew Gyara's head at, the second whisker should be hidden? Who knows. Maybe mine is deformed.
I'll admit a mistake at this point... two of Gyara's fins are missing (they should be 1/3rd and 2/3rds along the body), but I can easily fit them in once I get around to coloring the pic.
Crystal Hikara: Haha yeah, I really did exaggerate the sizes for max effect. Gyarados should be 21'04'' long, and weigh 518 lbs. Celebi on the other hand is 2'00'' and 11 lbs. I guess my Gyarados must be roughly twice the size of a regular one (if only I could catch it...).
Starforce: Oh dude, you mean the Dark Gyarados from the Team Rocket Returns set? I love the style they used! It's one of my main artistic inspirations, as you can no doubt tell from my shading style. The Dark Gyara card was one of my faves, alongside Dark Dragonite and Dark Slowking. But man they all rocked, really. <3
EspeonROX: Yeah I kinda preferred it without pupils in my non-inked sketch, but I think that when I get around to coloring it I'll add the pupils so everyone is happy. And perhaps Celebi can travel back in time and beat Gyarados when it's a lowly Magikarp? The world may never know...
