Yeah, they do, do you think they will change them for the UK or other countries?

I think pokemon is rewally modernizing the B/W games. American looking trainers, older protaginists, big modern cities, that's the way their going. I wouldn't be surprised if Isshu is based on America.(Unless I'm wrong, and this has been proved wrong) But we have threads for that.

Mostly all the games the characters look American. I don't know why, but I don't think the creators really care upon how their characters look in the games.

You mean American Football. Outside of the US, football is known as soccer.

Anyway, this DOES quite seem to be based off of America...big bridges, far away from Japan (the previous four regions were based off of real areas in Japan)...I think it's too similar to be a coincidence.

Yeah I noticed that in one of the videos. It seems to be an American Football Player. :p

But yeah most of the people in the games look American and they will probably stick with how the characters look throughout the production of future Pokemon games.

Are any of you actually British? If you're not it doesn't matter what we call football. Here it's just football.

I think that GameFreak wants to appeal to the company's large fanbase in America.

This very well could be the case, and this thread only adds fuel to the Manhattan theory ^_^ (which, if it was just coincidence, would still be very strange o_O)

How do these trainers look "American" to you? I don't think there is that much difference between the way Americans look to for example Britain, Germany, or any other large (primarily white) country? (Besides the fact that there are more obese people in the US.)

I don't think these trainer sprites are much different from the ones in previous games. So we got one black person, and an American football player... do you really think you don't see those anywhere else in the world? When I walk outside I see people of all races and colours. And we played American football in high school. I've seen nothing in Isshu so far that is exclusively American.

I think a lot of the people on these boards are just looking for reasons to believe that Isshu is in America. You are searching for patterns, because you want to confirm what you already believe to be true.

You don't need to be British to know what things are called where in the world. Over here, it's called Football. But if we were discussing this in a foreign country, then we could call it American Football. What we call Football and what they call American Football are the same thing, so I call it American Football to not bring confusion to anyone from Britain or any other country that's not the US.

american football is spelled footbal, soccer in countries that arent america is spelled futbol

Thanks. We just HAD to know that. I think they look the same. Where do you see a football player?

I think people are looking a bit too much into this "American" thing. If you want to pin a race to the characters in the game, most would be asian, and to be more specific Japanese. There is a larger majority of asian people than white or blacks in the states. Don't agree, well then may I point out to you Lt. Surge? He is American.

The football player is this gen's snowboarder, nothing more.

Is Isshu based off of America, possibly, but it is still unconfirmed. I wasn't too big of a fan of it in the beginning but I am warming up to it.

Lol @ people who say the characters look American. How can you point out an American in a Pokemon game?

The characters in all past games have been Asian, and I'm hoping people know that already. They seem to be really fair-skinned Asians, though, so they look ambiguously Caucasian to me.

Still, though, if it isn't obvious that GF are trying to imply something by using even more conspicuous stereotypes... Yeah, pretty obvious. When I see an American football player, I don't exactly think "China!", or "Europe!", etc. Now, I could very well be wrong about this, but I'm fairly certain American Football is MOST COMMONLY associated with America.
