Hi all,
I'm new here and wanted peoples help because I've been away from the trading card game since the Diamond and pearl sets and I'm thinking about getting back into it.I have £30 and I don't know where to begin.Especially because of the new set coming out.Should I wait for a new theme deck to be released or just buy boosters and a old theme deck Or even an EX tin...
Also any major changes that I have missed?
Thanks

RE: Help getting back into it

Well I would advise against starting with Black and White or Emerging Powers sets. I personally thought those sets were terrible except for the starter holos and full arts. But Emerging Powers, I could care less about any of the cards, minus a few supporters and item cards.

I would think Next Destinies is a good start, if any packs are left in stores since it's been awhile since they were out.

RE: Help getting back into it

Depends whether you play or collect the TCG.

You may find the Plasma Storm Elite Trainer Box helpful if you are getting back into the competitive TCG. Otherwise, if you are a collector, try to set a goal that is challenging but at the same time not overwhelming. One common way to start is by collecting cards of your favorite Pokémon (e.g. Pikachu or Charizard).

RE: Help getting back into it

I have a card shop in my city which has a hobby league at the back each Saturday and they hold pre-release's.
So I would say that I am looking to use the cards to play and make decks but I wouldn't buy a Set's boosters to complete it nor would I spend money on specific cards to enter tournaments with.I would buy packs as much as possible as well as new tins etc.
The box looks really good but I don't know if it's available in the UK or how easy it would be to get hold of.

RE: Help getting back into it

In that case, I would stick to any packs from Next Destinies onward.

The Fall 2012 Tins are also a great buy. You can get 4 packs, a tin, and Promo EX for about $16.

RE: Help getting back into it

Yeah I think that's what I'll do...
I started at the team rocket era and i ended at diamond and pearl so none of the cards I have currently are Helpful.
I'm going to buy the new packs first because they will probably have them in and Get a tin (Which comes with some Dragons exhalted packs I believe)
Three questions....
Can I use my old energy (The basic ones not D.colourless etc.)
Are the tins released each season eg.Fall, summer etc. or in a different way
Do theme decks come out with a set or will I have to get an old one and wait?

Thanks for the responses

1. Yes.
2. I believe every 2-3 seasons... Not sure, but sure that not every season
3. Yes. Every time a set is released, 2 corresponding decks appear with special shard holos of a regular rare from the set.

Moving your thread to New Player Help because you're a returning player trying to get back into the game. Please post threads like this there in the future.

I also updated the thread title to better reflect the question being asked.

find ur old rare candies and buy 3 stater decks with the blastoise in it and trade for keldeo or other water ookemon and u shoukd be good for a while

You can make a couple of cheap decks with the tins: Darkrai with or without Mewtwo, Mewtwo/Eels, and Rayeels are all very good decks that can be built reasonably cheaply with tin promos.

I know that is isn't entirely relevant to the the topic title but rather than making a new thread it still ties in with being a new player.
So after buying LOTS of packs and getting a booster box,I found that although I have alot of the Plasma storm set and some of the others I don't have Many "Competitive" cards.
I have spent quite alot of money trying to get back into the game but I have just realised that if I bought alot of the cards I need from a website like troll and toad etc. then I could get a competitive deck and it would be cheaper than buying packs and hoping for pulls.

So,After looking at the prices of popular decks....I decided that if I can stretch to it I would like to buy a Blastoise/Keldeo deck.(I can get pretty much all of the cards I need for £60)

I have a few questions to make sure that this is a good idea.
1) Will the deck still be good when the new set comes out?
2) Is it worth the money to get the deck rather than packs?
3) Will it be safe to order alot of singles online (I was going to use Troll and toad)
4)Is there any "good" decks that would be cheaper,I'd like one that i could at least compete at tournaments with (successfully)

Thanks in advance and for the help in the previous coments

You can buy pretty much the whole Darkrai/Lasers deck for way less than 60(except for the catchers), or even eels. I would advise in trying out some decks before deciding. Darkrai is still gonna be pretty solid after Freeze Comes out.

Is there a list for Darkrai lasers?
Also, Could I get away with no or one catchers?
(The best chance i will have to try darkrai is tcgo or try and learn to use play tcg)
Thanks for the help

Pokemon:
4 Darkrai Ex
4 Sableye

supporters:
4 Professor Juniper
3 N
3 Bianca

trainers 27
4 Dark Patch
4 Ultra Ball
4 Energy Switch
2 Dark Claws
2 Virbank City Gym
4 Hypnotoxic Laser

energy:
12 Darkness Energy

There's some extra room in this deck for a few specific cards, but this is pretty much a cookie-cutter list.

There were Catchers in the list but i removed them because you only have 1. Don't worry about the lack of Catchers on your end, if anythting this is a good thing, because now you can add cards like Bicycle, Random Receiver, Tool Scrapper, Crushing Hammer etc. The deck has no problem fitting some of those cards in normally, but in your case you can play alot more than usual. Don't get too excitied with all the extra space, the one thing you should focus more on is draw power above anything else.

Thanks for the list and the advice....
I know I keep going on about it but is it safe to buy all of the cards online?

hi guys

i'm from india i too have such doubt.. for u people its easy to go and check in a shop but i can only do online shopping.
so i'm too confused wat to buy and which will be the best in all
i want to play a lot in TCG but in the online website it said if u buy nearly for 25$ den shipping is free so i'm thinking if i buy online booster cards only den nearly 40-50 cards i can buy.
that too much so thinking to buy really cards+ online booster cards but dont know which will be good
as i seen pokemon B&W plasma freezing box i felt its best in cost and lots of cards it have.
