1. Hitmontop is a Pokemon built for one thing, turning. That is very evident in the way its hands are shaped; they are made to propel itself off of the ground to use Triple Kick to a deadly effect. Sugimori outdid himself on this Pokemon because he thought of everything, even the top head to spin on.
2. Blastoise is just a great looking turtle when it comes to water Pokemon. The cannons coming out of its back just scream that this is where the concept of Hydro Cannon came from. It is also the master of defense with its huge shell ready to block any psychical attack.
3. Charizard is just amazing. No one can forget a flying fire lizard. The colors are just fantastic to show that it is fire (the red) and the flying (the sky blue color of its wings). The tail just gives it even more flare as a great Pokemon by making an unforgettable impression (2nd most remembered Pokemon other than Pikachu).
4. Lugia is meant for the water as it has flipper-like devices on its back that bend as it enters and leaves the water. It can cause great currents with its wings and to sum it all up is a Psychic type. This guy just has it all!
5. Zapdos is just pure electricity. Its whole body just has the essence of power with its thunderbolt like wings. The body is yellow so that it looks like a large charge of electricity due to the thunderbolt wings.
6. Snorlax is like the fat bear that needs to be in our world. He looks cute and cuddly and from the huge belly, it the best lazy Pokemon ever created. It is also slow so there is no cliche like Slaking.
7. Mudkip is an aquatic superstar! The only Pokemon line that is known for its prominent gills also makes sense as does the tail. It allows it to swim quickly through the water to make up for its slowness on land.
8. Bulbasaur is the perfect example of evolution to come. The bloom on its back that then leads to it blooming to the flower is genius. Also, with a green spotted body like moss, it is perfect for hiding in a forest.
9. Dusknoir is the Pokemon embodiment of death. The fact that it has a mouth on its stomach that can open to capture souls just blows me away as does the antenna that tells it what spirits to collect. And the strong hands just complete the looks of a strong reaper of death.
10. Smeargle may look like a human, but is an artist with his tail dripping with paint and the French art hat. The look is completed by the paw print on the back to show the mess artists make when creating a truly great work of art.
11. Cressilia is a great representation of the crescent moon. Its head is shaped like it and it has wings with a purple cast that further the crescent feeling.
12. Butterfree's design may be simple, but is in fact genius. Sure it may look like a simple butterfly, but that is the golden part about this Pokemon. By keeping its feature simple, but giving it good attacks, it stays in the minds of kids easier than something complicated or intricate like Arceus.
13. Pikachu is the perfect mouse. It has everything from the cute, small face to the way it runs. The features are added with the ears and the tail. It is defiantly a 2nd to Mickey Mouse in the best mouse characters.
14. Raichu is another great example of a mouse. This time, the tail is improved upon to create a more mouse-like appearance as are the ears. And, since it gains weight, the speed is lost making this Pokemon make perfect sense.
15. Hitmonchan is golden to anyone who is a fan of boxing because he looks exactly like a boxer. The only thing that sets him apart is his face and head. Everything else is spot on, especially the fact that his legs are apart in a stance when he stands.
16. Aerodactyl captures the essence of the dinosaur era. It is a pterodactyl, buts adds more of a Pokemon face and a devil-like tail. This is the perfect Pokemon for teaching kids about the dinosaurs.
17. Mamoswine shows kids the Ice Age since it is a perfect woolly mammoth. Nothing could have been more spot on, mainly the tusks which are shorter on females. The only things that makes it cute and cartoonish is its shorter body.
18. Steelix is the way rocks and steel come alive in one. By making a snake out of it, it adds so much more to the boring rocks on our planet and makes them an excellent battler. The fact that is has super good defense just completes the image.
19. Dragonite is the one Dragon Pokemon that truly gives the perfect dragon feel because it has a proportional body compared to others like Salamence. It has the claws, wings, and attack power as the dragons in feudal legends.
20. Glameow brings the world of pets to Pokemon. It is a purrfect cat because it has everything that a real cat actually has with exception of the curly tail which makes it a Pokemon. I would want it as a pet.
