I'm an avid biker. I cycle everyday. I tend to go to a nearby park and stick to a paved bikepath. In order to get there I tend to use the sidewalk. I just don't feel safe on the road unless there is a designated bike lane on a wide road. But biking on a sidewalk isn't all that safe either. Just recently, i was on the sidewalk and noticed a group of people walking toward me. When I see people on the sidewalk, I tend to let them pass and swerve around them, turning on nearby grass. Well, this time, I hit the edge of on of those neighbourhood garndens along the sidewalk and fell. While I fell, my left foot hit the sharp edge of the thing that holds the chain in place. I got a deep cut on one side by my heel and struggled getting back home. By the time I got there my sock and shoe were covered in blood. I can't put any weight on my foot now. This is why I consider biking on the sidewalk dangerous. Sur maybe the people should have moved or you could say i should be more careful, but sometimes there could be things that can't be controlled. I've had some pretty tough times getting away from dogs on the sidewalk for example. I think that more dedicated bike lanes should be made, as my city only has a few. They don't take up much of the road, but ensure a greater security for bikers.
