Budew from Terastal Festival

Pichu got a card in Gen 8, but only in Japan. Even if you ignore Mischievous Pichu, Budew was and Chingling has been waiting longer for a new card than Pichu. Chingling has taken the crown for Pokemon that hasn't been printed the longest currently.

Holy shit I saw the first comment saying it's busted and thought they were joking. Imagine if this card had the proto-ability baby pokemon had in HGSS where you could cheese out several turns with them because your opponent keeps flipping tails

God-

Well at least we have our Dusknoir counter. But every deck is going to be royally upset at this. I don't think it'll be incredibly popular unless it can actually fit in a decent control deck that can combo with Budew's free retreat, but anything even marginally slower than the top evolution decks will have a field day with this. Thankfully Hydreigon ex barely plays item cards after setup.

Yah you know stall and control are suck weak and fragile archetypes right now. They definitely need something like free item lock to really push them into viability. 🙄
I mean, Snorlax is rotating a few months after this card is printed, while Dusknoir is here to stay for another couple of years. This card seems like a more effective Dusknoir and especially Charizard counter than Gastrodon (Which a Charizard user could just play around by triggering each stage 2's ability while it's in the active thanks to Pidgeot's free retreat), but it also slows down big-basic decks that want to throw down slews of Item cards.

As people have pointed out, this could be splashed into a variety of decks. All that remains to be seen is whether people begin teching it on a broad scale... and if the construction of meta decks changes as a result.

Turn 1 going second item lock into Rotom turn 2 discarding all tools and items from the hand could go crazy. That said the 30 hp means it gets picked off by Dusclops. It could work with the right build and in the right meta, but I don't think it's very busted. if your opponent established a stable board t1 then it's putting momentum in your opponent's hands even as it takes certain options away. If your opponent goes second then using its attack turn 2 seems more like a desperation option than a viable strategy. If it becomes a problem then it's very easy to tech for.

This is definitely something to generically consider, besides maybe any go-second turbo deck. Decks that want to go first that end up going second now have a card that can disrupt and shift the momentum of the game. We have generic, consistent, disruption that isn't hand disruption or tied to a flip coin. It's item lock not tied to a type of energy, evolution, or even a freakin retreat cost. Certain decks have the ability to out it faster than others or put themselves in more or less vulnerable positions with what they need to do to get rid of it.

At the very least, the majority of evolving decks or other decks that aim to go first should consider it as a one-of for if they ever go second. Someone can correct me on this, but Budew is probably the single most generic item lock card ever in this game and should be considered a real threat.
