Budget Deck Help

Hey guys, I've been wanting to get back into the TCG for awhile now, but not sure where to start. I recently picked up one of those Celebi boxes, but that's the last thing I've bought since Flashfire (except for a few packs here and there). i was wondering if any of you guys could help me set up a basic budget deck to start with before I try to get really competitive. Thanks!

I'd suggest you first check-out the Deck Garage and find a few decks you really like. Afterwards, you can price and compare your various deck choices.

To just give you an idea of the cost of the investment into the staples that go into just about every deck, ill make a list for you. Ill edit it in in a few minutes.

4 Professor Sycamore @ $.75 ea, $3
4 Trainer's Mail @ 1.25 ea, $5
4 VS Seeker @ ~$10 ea, $40
4 Battle Compressor @ $4.50 ea, $18
4 Professor Birch's Observations @ $1.75 ea, $7
4 Acro Bike @ $1.50 ea, $6
4 Ultra Ball @ $.25 ea, $1
4 Level Ball @ $.50 ea, $2
2 Shaymin EX @ $35 ea, $70(Optional, But highly recommend for Consistency)

Grand total ~$80 investment into STAPLES used in just about EVERY deck.

These are the most commonly used cards in deck creation, in my opinion. Most of the time they are ran as a Playset, or close to it, besides Birch. So you can see, the investment into just the staples can be little overwhelming at first, but once you have these cards, you could build a large variety of decks. The only other additional investment will be a couple One-ofs of cheaper cards, and your pokemon lines, and depending on the deck you can get all the pokemon for a deck for surprisingly cheap, cheapest being probably Vespiqueen / Vileplume, or even Night March(Except for Shaymin EX), both of which are highly competitive decks in the standard meta at the moment.

Well I do have 1 Shaymin, and the only trainers on there I don't have are trainer's mail, Prof Birch, and Level ball, so at least I've got those out of the way. Are the ones I'm missing relatively easy to come by?

Most of your Trainer cards are easy to come by in most cases. Another option for Shaymin EX too if you cannot afford them is Octillery (BKT 33) It takes a little more to set up and take more space, but is still a very noteworthy card for a deck if you have the room.

They are fairly easy to come across especially if you are a part of a regular league, if you have players there like me, we have an over abundance of lower tier staples like trainer's mail and are always looking for new players to either give away, or trade. But that's awesome you have almost all of the staples you'll need. But in the case of Birch and Level Ball, those are really niche cards and find their way into only certain decks, so whether or not you'll actually need those is totally dependant on which deck you decide on building.

And as for what @SilverSilent said, Octillery is another great draw option, and is a good alternative to Shaymin EX if your deck can allow for the 2-4 card investment.

So now, I would look in the deck garage and look into decks and their respective strategies and see which one floats your fancy. And from their, we can help you get to where you need to be with a great deck. Also Welcome back to the TCG, it's always nice to see more players join the community!
