Butterfree's Potential (Flashire)

I've talked to some people who say Butterfree has potential while some say it has no potential. I think it's good because of the quick setup of caterpie and metaphod. I am currently trying to work out a list which includes Miltank from Flashfire but I'm having problems.

What does everyone else think of Butterfree's potential?

It's attacks are nothing special, BUT it appears to be a custom fit with Miltank for a turn one attack for 100 (with MB) for 1 colorless energy.

I think it's too gimmicky to be of any real potential. Miltank get's KO'd too easily and while 100 damage T2 is great, what do you do when the deck runs out of steam?

How does a deck that needs a basic Pokémon with one any energy run out of steam? Just run enough Pokémon recovery. With Miltank I would play Empoleon though. Maybe 1-0-1 Butterfree and 4 Evosoda. Except that you can't use Evosoda on you first turn at all so no Butterfree...

With my testing I found Butterfree / Miltank to be pretty decent. I have only lost a few times with it on the PTCGO. It starts hitting for 80 turn 1 lots of the time. The only thing this deck really needs is an answer to pyroar, as butterfree is not. A stage 1 water type that can hit for 60 for low energy cost could be the answer, but then again I haven't really looked if such a thing exists.

I think Butterfree has potential. Just not with this printing.

If in the next set or two, they make a Butterfree that can do some damage on it's own, not simply be the support for another Pokémon's attack, then we could be in for something really interesting and really cool.

As it is now, Butterfree sits in the "Hey that's cool", but nearly unplayable pile.

Empoleon is the answer and a great secondary attacker for some non-EX OHKOs.

But what about the T1 butterfree consistency? You can win the game in 6 turns potentially with that set up. And with all of the 4-4-4 lines its not that unlikely to happen. I do see the potential of Empoleon though, especially with everything being 1 energy and all, but then you lose the terrible effect to not be poisoned. In this deck being poisoned is the absolute worst. Even with Aspertia City Gym you are stuck between 120 and 100 HP, meaning if a laser struck and you were stuck active then going into sleep would put you at 90, which is a huge risk even if you retreat because of Darkrai, Landorus, and Kyurem decks; most of which run lasers. The deck kind of needs to be run grass wise so that Virizion EX can stop the poison right away.

I guess I worded that wrong. What I meant was what will happen when all of your Miltank get KO'd and there are no Super Rod or Sacred Ash left. Miltank doesn't have enough HP to keep going forever.

Why pair Butterfree with Empoleon when Leafeon is much faster as a Stage 1 with better damage output for little cost especially to score revenge KO's? If your opponent somehow manages to lock your abilities with Garbodor then there's no way for you to get Butterfree out unless you Rare Candy Caterpie.

Not Butterfree and Empoleon. Miltank and Empoleon...

Try to keep this on topic guys. If you want you can take this to the Empoleon thread. This thread is for discussing Butterfree.

Miltank/Butterfree/Virizion-EX/Plasma Leafeon

Nuff said.

Plasma leafeon for one energy does 20x the number of energy on your opponents field , and it's a good counter to pyroar.

This deck can also take advantage of Virizion ability since you run grass energy

I don't know why people insist on Pyroar being so OP. Honestly, just catcher or even Lysandre the Litleo out to active and OHKO it! It has to sit on the bench for at least one turn to evolve anyways. Also, decks like Butterfree/Milktank are not supposed to be able to contend with top tier decks, it's more of just a league fun deck from what I've heard.
