BW OU First Attempt

Wheres the annoying nature?
Member
This is my first attempt at BW. I have been playing competitive for a short while, but not long. i mostly play DPP, usually OU, rarely Ubers. Either way, this team will not be fantastic in any way, but I tried.

EDIT 1: Completely remodeled team. Updated after third post (which was mine...)
EDIT 2: No posts since this ^... Added sprites for new remodeled team.
EDIT 3: Fixed to requirements.

Jell-O (Reuniclus) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 172 HP / 240 Def / 96 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Focus Blast
- Calm Mind
- Recover
- Psychic

Jell-O is very compatible. To lead up against most leads, while they set up, it uses Calm Mind. With a couple of Calm Mind's, STAB boost, and high Special Attack, Psychic is a great move. The only problem is special walls. To get rid of these, I have Focus Blast (Liable to change, because of the miss-rate...) Recover is obviously to heal when needed. Jell-O is also resistant to physical moves, due to high defense, such as crunch from high attack pokemon.

Cerebus (Ferrothorn) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 SDef
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Leech Seed
- Spikes
- Power Whip
- Gyro Ball

Cerebus is a very useful pokemon, due to being a special wall. The only thing it is fearful of is fire moves.. Every fire move deals X4 damage, even with the high special defense. Cerebus can also set up spikes, which is useful. Gyro ball is to cause high damage, due to nature lowering speed, and pre-low speed. Power-whip is take care of pesky Starmies, Tenatcruels, and other popular water pokemon. With the STAB boost, power whip is very powerful. Leech seed is to suck some final health from cowering pokemon. I cant switch out using this, but if I am going to KO it anyways, Ill give it mercy to set up leech seed, to suck a tiny bit of HP from it. This is also good if most of their team is special attackers.

I'm On Acid (Tentacruel) (M) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Scald
- Toxic Spikes
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin

Tentacruel is also a very good special wall. It has high EV's in special defense, without forgetting about physical attackers. Scald gives a burn chance, while dealing STAB damage. Toxic spikes is a very good setup, since with that, I don't have to scald to deal damage every turn. Ice Beam is to get rid of super effective grass types, or high powered dragons, while dealing a fair amount of damage to neutral effective. Rapid Spin is a great hazard remover, but I can only use it when I know they wont attack. Without priority, and not effective to ghost types, it is very liable.Once the opponent knows I have that ove, and they set up tons of stuff, I take tons of damage every switch in... If they have a ghost type, they switch that in and I cant get rid of the hazards. :(

Pory's Masta (Metagross) @ Leftovers
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 128 HP / 252 Atk / 128 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- Bullet Punch
- Explosion

Metagross is my main attacker. Due to prority move, it is not letting me down yet. Earthquake deals crazy amounts of damage, which is very useful in neutral effectiveness situations, and sometimes a OHKO on certain types. Bullet Punch is great, since I can switch in Meta. and take a final shot. Meteor Mash is also a high power attack, but it is mostly for what earthquake can't do, such as flying... Explosion is when Im cornered...

Nurse Anger (Blissey) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Wish
- Thunder Wave
- Heal Bell
- Seismic Toss

Since I have no others, Blissey is my medic/physical wall. She uses wish and heal bell to be my medic, to heal herself and all others. If I have no time to use heal bell for herself, she can switch oyut and heal status due to Natural Cure. Thnder Wave is to phaze setting up pokemon, and also to give blissey a turn or two to attack with seismic toss. Seismic toss is for a constant 100 damage, due to lack of EV's in attacks.

This team has been tested [no time, as of yet.]. (BTW, I play on Pokemon Online, so I can change ANYTHING to anyone). I am not very good with strategies, at least not in Pokemon (yet...), so this is a team that MAYYY just work for me. I hope you like it, but you will most likely not approve. please give me any advice you can rack up, as I will probably take full consideration to it. I am a complete and total noob as far as competitive battling goes, so I need your advice desperately.
Removed Serperior due to DW Ability. Otherwise useless to me...:smashcomp Need new pokemon to take its pplace.. (Plus, I have a plenty good cerebus for grass moves...)

This should be a fun team to rate, lets see...

With Serperior, have fun using Coil with a Choice Scarf. You can boost your stats as high as you want, until you realize that you can't use any move OTHER than Coil. Also, using a 40 Base Power un-STAB'd move from a max attack stat of 273 should be great. Most other things can use 90-ish Power Moves coming from an attacking stat of 340-350. Lets fix up this set...

Serperior (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Contrary
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Leech Seed
- Substitute

Much better, don't you think? The EVs are quite obvious, and the Timid nature is because you can't boost your speed like you can with your SpAtk with this set. With Contrary, every time you use Leaf Storm, your SpAtk is doubled, instead of halved like it would with any other Pokemon. That means your stat of 250-ish is automatically shot up to 500. The next time you use it, you'll have 1000 SpAtk. You'll max out at around 2000 SpAtk if you get up 3 Leaf Storms. HP Fire is for Ferrothorn, the most popular Pokemon. It also hits Breloom, Scizor, Forretress, Genesect, and pretty much any other Steel Type much harder. Honestly, the only drawback to this Pokemon is his horrible movepool, which is a HUGE drawback. Any team containing a Heatran, Chandelure, Dragonite, Blaziken (as it isn't banned in some areas), Latios, Hydreigon, or pretty much ANY OTHER DRAGON OR FIRE TYPE, you can't touch them. The horrible movepool only leaves two viable options left, SubSeeding. With Serperior's meh HP stat, you'll probably gain a lot of HP from opponents. (Side note here, Hyper Beam is not a viable competitive move at all.)

IMO, Musharna is for NU. Take it out, get rid of it, and replace it with Reuniclus. It far outclasses Musharna as a Psychic type, has better attacking stats, and better defensive stats. Here is a run of the mill set for Reuniclus.

Reuniclus (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 172 HP / 240 Def / 96 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Psyshock/Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Calm Mind
- Recover

Magic Guard is obvious, and Leftovers are for recovery outside of Recover. The EVs and Nature are to retain Physical bulk while you set up Calm Minds to keep your Special bulk. Psyshock is my personal choice of move here, since it lets you beat those Special walls that would otherwise troll you all day, like Blissey. You also win Calm Mind wars (where two Pokemon use Calm Mind six times and see who gets a crit first if they don't have a Physical move). Psychic gives you 10 more power, and also has a slight chance of lowering the opponent's SpDef, but you lose the ability to kill Blissey easier. Focus Blast is for coverage, it hits Steels and Darks that would otherwise come off unscathed. Calm Mind is obvious, and Recover is to well, recover health.

Steelix is meh, all of its stats suck except for its Defense. If you want a defensive wall that is good in most of its stats, use Ferrothorn. It does not have the 500 Defense that Steelix has, but it can take a special hit really well too. It also has amazing typing, the only things being super effective on it are Fire and Fighting.

Ferrothorn (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 SDef
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Leech Seed
- Spikes
- Power Whip
- Gyro Ball

This is the set I use. EVs are for taking Special hits better, since he already has enough defensive bulk. Leech Seed is obvious, and Spikes are to set up entry hazards, as they can be very annoying. Power Whip can actually be used, as he has a somewhat good attack stat. Sassy Nature is to decrease his speed as much as possible for Gyro Ball to do maximum damage.

Oh my god, what have you done to competitive knowledge. Enjoy using Sandstorm and being locked into it by Choice Scarf. Several things I think you should know before ever making another team.

1. Never run Choice items on walls.
2. NEVER run choice items on walls.
3. Never use more than one choice item per team.
4. Never use weather moves (Hail, Sandstorm, Rain Dance, Sunny Day) because there are Pokemon for that. T-Tar/Hippowdon for sand, Politoed for Rain, Ninetales for Sun, and Abomasnow for Hail.
5. NEVER run Choice items on walls.
6. Never use a move under 60 base power unless it is a Priority move.
7. Sandstorm only boosts rock type's SpDef by 1.5. No move types are powered up.
8. Never run mix-sets (using Attacking and Special Attacking moves) unless the Pokemon has good stats in both Atk and SpAtk.
9. NEVER RUN CHOICE ITEMS ON WALLS
10. Never use two Pokemon for the same purpose, as in, having two physical walls with almost the same typing and use.
11. Hyper Beam is bad.
12. Giga Impact is bad.
13. Blast Burn, Franzy Plant, and Hydro Cannon are also bad.

Now, continuing with Gigalith, keep in mind what I have said above and choose something else to replace it. I'll fix that Pokemon when you pick it.

Hey! You finally made a good set with Garbodor! Sadly, that is the only viable set for Garbodor, and it is gimmicky. I go against using it competitively, so if you need a Pokemon that can set up Toxic Spikes, and is also a Special Wall, Tentacruel is your guy.

Tentacruel (M) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Scald
- Toxic Spikes
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin

This is a special wall, and one that Toxic Spikes and Rapid Spins your opponent's hazards away. The EVs are to get as much Special bulk in without totally killing the physical side of things. Liqid Ooze is a great ability and it really trolls Ferrothorns when they try and use Leech Seed on you. Scald is for the 30% burn chance, and T-Spikes are obvious. Ice Beam is to hit those Dragons and Grasses much harder, and Rapid Spin takes care of your opponent's entry hazards.

Clefable is UU. It is good in UU, and I've never seen one in OU. Your best bet is to run Blissey instead if you want a good normal type wall.

Blissey) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Wish
- Toxic/Thunder Wave
- Heal Bell
- Seismic Toss

Finally, when your team is statused with Paralysis and Poisoning, Blissey comes in to save the day with Heal Bell. But before that, we need to look at the EVs. Her SpDef is already nice, but any Physical attack, and she dies. However, Max Defense EVs and Nature will fix that! Wish is to give healing to other members of the team. Toxic/T-Wave is to status the opponent. Heal Bell was already covered. S-Toss is to hit for 100 damage consistently, since Blissey's Atk and SpAtk are horrible. The best partner for Blissey is a Ghost type, who takes that Fighting weakness away when you use clever switching (hinthint Gigalith replacement)

Alright, I'm done ripping apart your team! If you have any questions, please ask me.

@Hatman He was factoring in sand force.
Anyways, Here's my advice. First, I agree with hatman completely. Next, never run a weather (even with sandstream, drizzle, etc.) unless your whole team is based off of it. There's nothing really for me to do, since hatman did it all... but I do think you should replace gigalith with this:
Metagross@ leftovers
EV's: 252 atk, 128 hp, 52 def, 52 sdef
Nature: Adamant (+atk, -satk)
Ability: Clear Body
Moves:
-Meteor Mash
-Earthquake
-Bullet punch
-Explosion
Metagross has two options in compatetive play: a physical sweeper, or a tank. The physical sweeper uses agility and life orb and the tank uses def ev's and leftovers. This metagross is great, with 405 atk, 333 hp, 312 def, and 232 def. Bullet punch is a good priority STAB move, meteor mash is your main attacking move, earthquake takes care of fires, and explosion is when you think you can't take any more hits. If you want a a wall, just dump more ev's into def, spdef, and hp. If you want a sweeper, give him agility, life orb, and dump more ev's into speed.
Hope this helps!:D

Ok thanks. I will basically completely remodel my team, then update first post. Thanks for advice willing to hear from you again...

BTW I told you I had no clue what I was doing in competitive.

EDIT: My team got sweeped by a snorlax. What are some good snorlax counters?

EDIT 2: Gardobor was good, till he met a poison pokemon in a dark alley. Toxic dont work, so his entire set failed. He was a good sweeper with two turns to set up though...

Snorlax isn't used enough to have a counter to it. Just don't let it set up. If set-up sweepers are still a problem, get a Phazer. And something with two attacking move that are the same type and only cover a total of one type super effectively is NOT a sweeper. Have fun with Steel types.

Thing is, I had gardobor trying to use toxic outside of para., but it kept failing because of para., so the snorlax got like thirty curses in, and was unstoppable...

Try putting roar or whirlwind on a pokemon.

Can ferrothorn learn it?
Sadly, no. The next best thing is a red card. When you get attacked, the attacking pokemon is switched out. Unfortunetaly, it's a one time use.
EDIT: I've also noticed that you run Blissey. You could try Chansey with an eviolite, but it's up to you. Chansey gets better bulk, but blissey has leftovers.

I think Ill skip the chansey thing and the roar/whirlwind thing. Sorry. I haven't tested the team yet. Give me a little bit and ill test it on Smogon's server.

I need another pokemon next to Serperior. Hopefully a special attacker...

Heatran (M) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Dragon Pulse
- Earth Power

Here's a set I really don't use anymore. You can, its actually quite good against Sandstorm teams if you preserve the Balloon. Flamethrower is STAB, HP Ice is to hit most Dragons harder, Dragon Pulse is more or less filler, you can replace it with Stealth Rocks or Dark Pulse if need be. Earth Power hits the mirror hard, along with many other things.

for the 6th guy i would put in either swampert, or seismitoad. it would improve your team some.

For swampert @ leftovers/lum berry(if using rest)
ability: torrent
EVs: 200 Atk/ 252 HP/ 56 Sp. Def
Careful Nature (+Sp. Def, -Sp. Atk)/Adament nature (+Atk, -Sp. Atk)
-avalanche
-waterfall
-earthquake
-stone edge/stealth rock/rest

For Seismitoad i would make it a mixed attacker.

Also, give ferrothorn rocky helmet so it is more effective on opponents. and if u battle, only one of each item. so you will have to think about having all those leftovers.

If you're talking about the item clause, that's only in vgc

Hatman said:
Swampert is sorta bad this reigon, since there's a Ferrothorn on just about every other team.

umm... that is a statement I disagree with. There's also a Heatran on every other team, and Skarmory, Forretress, Scizor, and Jirachi are all still great pokemon. Swampert would do just fine.

If you use Swampert like dragonpulse told you, use the EV Spread he gave you with a Careful nature. If I remember right, that will always allow you to survive a Dragonite's Draco Meteor, and set up stealth rock or Ice Beam it. I would use a moveset of:

~Stealth Rock
~Earthquake
~Ice Beam
~Roar/Protect/Surf.

Protect or Roar are the most consistant options. Since you're running a stall team, Roar is probably the better idea here, as it allows you to rack up a bunch of damage from Stealth Rock, Spikes, and Toxic Spikes.

EDIT: The ev spread isn't what I thought it was. I would use:
Relaxed nature, 248 HP/216 Def/44 SpDef.
