..yeah, they're supposed to look like their evo I know that. But thats the problem, they're just smaller versions with bigger eyes. Pichu? Elekid? Magby? There certainly isn't anything original there. Some kind of have their own gimmick (like Wynaut) but as for the others...
I always thought the evo between Grimer and muk was kinda unoriginal too. A blob evolves into... a bigger blob.

anyways, there are still some original changes, they aren't smaller identical versions
and they are pre-evolved out of very original pokemon, so i guess you can't really say they are that unoriginal

well, the pokemon they evolve into are interesting, but the baby pokemon were created after those. So the creators didn't bother to make the baby pokemon anything special, thats why I think they're unoriginal. And... well, I think they just are smaller versions, we'll have to agree to disagree on that one! 
I think Ratata is a bit unoriginal... I mean, it was a good idea but they could of done more with it rather than just make it purple O_O

Rattata? Well, it looks just fine.
And baby Pokémon...really, they aren't supposed to be those Digimon-like things such as Koromon and Tsunomon, with no arms, legs, or even a suitable body. Baby Pokémon are just cute! But if they were too different, they wouldn't look like their evos. See Smoochum, a real baby, a grown-up person and a Jynx. See what I mean?
