I know its only 2 weeks away but i was wondering how people think Call of Legends will effect the metagame?

Also, I was contemplating what the new rotation would be but i cant pinpoint what it will be at all, can anyone help clear this up?

I you can only answer one go ahead, either or would be appreciated:)

RE: Call Of Legends/rotation?

it will make the lost zone way more popular. LostGar will rip through the meta and be a monster like SP's

the rotaion will most likely be RR-on buuuut they want to slow down the meta game so maybe just maybe it will be HGSS on but probably not.

RE: Call Of Legends/rotation?

The most likely possibilities for the meta are RR-on or HGSS-on. BW-on is a possibility but still a very rare one.

COL will introduce a lot more of the Lost Zone mechanic; cards like Lost World, Mime Jr, and Relicanth are all good cards that utilize remove-from-play area Lost Zone to maximum potential.

RE: Call Of Legends/rotation?

There's no way they'd make it BW on - we would only have 1, maybe 2 sets to work with if that were true. It'll probably be RR on to go with the 4 sets a year idea

RE: Call Of Legends/rotation?

I kept saying that RR-On is most likely going to be our next rotation to keep with TPCi and Pokemon USA's promise of rotating 4 sets a year even though people still want a HGSS-On format (Mid Season even) that would shrink what availablity for decks we have.

RE: Call Of Legends/rotation?

actuallfy if they did HGSS on at the end of this year we would be at 8 sets total if they are doing 4 sets a year. that is close enough to 9 sets

RE: Call Of Legends/rotation?

I still don't like it, that kills off one of my current Modified decks being Charizard and I don't want to tear the deck apart so soon unless I replace Charizard with Emboar and Typhlosion Prime with Magmortar UL when B/W comes out.

RE: Call Of Legends/rotation?

Yeah, they may want to make up for no rotation... last year was it? Well, we had 2 seasons of DP-on that got us sort of off track, so we may see a larger rotation now than in the past.
BW-on is a possibility since it's sort of like "Base Set 3," but I really hope it doesn't happen. We need time to work with CoL (and the HS sets), not a couple months.

RE: Call Of Legends/rotation?

BW on could never happen because it would mean that UD, TR, and Call only got one season to be used. And it only leaves us with 1 set. They would NEVER make a rotation that only leaves us with 1 set to play with.

It doesn't make sense from a playing point of view. There would probably be no variety, or at least, very little variety. I remember back in the day when we only had base set.. there wasn't much going on. Haymaker only really came together after Jungle because it needed Scyther and Wiggly, so really, what you had was Alakazam + Chansey.

From the money point of view, why would they make it so that all of the other sets they sell become obsolete? Can you imagine how upset Target, Toys R Us, and other stores would be if they suddenly made their entire inventory unsellable except the latest one? And if there's only one set that people are trading for/playing with, after everyone gets most of the cards in the set, there's no incentive to keep buying cards until the next set comes in.

And from a PR point of view, image all the upset players there would be. Imagine having 90% of your trading inventory completely wiped out from one day to the next. It would be chaos on the internet and in leagues.

It just won't happen because it's not economically feasible, for the company or the game.

RE: Call Of Legends/rotation?

Rotation most likely will be heart gold soul silver on and they may have mid seasson rotation. Pokemon black and white hase 150 cards in it and i think they really cant have to many cards in one format.

RE: Call Of Legends/rotation?

It looks to me that Pokemon has decided to create four set "blocks" that will then rotate out together.

1st "block": PT, RR, SV, AR
2nd "block: HS, UL, UD, TR

So try to follow me, but Pokemon would not rotate part of a block without rotating out the rest of it. Losing only Platinum would leave many SPs in the format but some of their major support would have rotated out. Just kill it entirely instead of half-killing it imo. I think that the next rotation will only be MD, LA and SF. The following rotation (2012) would be all the Platinum sets and then 2013 would be Call of Legends and the HS sets. The Houndoom reprint from Call of Legends makes me Call of Legends and Undaunted will not rotate together together.

RE: Call Of Legends/rotation?

tcpi doesnt really care if they cut the main sp engine and leave a bunch of sps that for the most part well be unplayable

really, the last rotation left us with a porygon z, but no porygon or porygon 2 to evolve it from

one thing ive noticed about rotation discussion is that a lot of people just say tcpi will probably do what they want to be done, because in their opinion it will be best for the metagame
the only real evidence we have about what the next rotation will be is that tcpi said that they will rotate out 4 sets and start every season with 9 sets

they could of course choose to not follow this, but until they announce the next rotation, this is all we really know

RE: Call Of Legends/rotation?

I just re-read the announcement for last rotation, and they never said they planned on rotating 4 sets every season.

Last year we announced that our goal was to have a Modified format that starts with 9 regular sets at the beginning of the season and ends the season with about 13 regular sets. Now that we have achieved that goal, we will continue to rotate sets each year to ensure that our Organized Play environment remains healthy and vital moving forward.

As you can see, their only goal was to start "the season" with 9 sets and end "the season" with 13 sets. Not each season. Sounds to me like they can do whatever they want with this rotation and not be contradicting themselves. It's anybody's game, but I think RR-on or SV-on makes the most sense. They're not going to rotate 7 sets, but they can't leave in PL.

@venasour X: TR didn't come out immediately after the rotation, it came out 2 months after. There was a period of time where nobody knew if there was going to ever be a playable Pory and/or Pory2.

RE: Call Of Legends/rotation?

It will probably be RR on

And I hypothesize that lostgar will become quite popular

RE: Call Of Legends/rotation?

If they do HGSS on that leaves us with 8 sets at the end of the year assuming that the season begins at the first cities in Nov (?). having 8 sets isnt to far from having 9 and in japan BW was seperated into 2 sets thus they have one more than us. our 8 sets would be HS, UD, UL, TR, CoL, BW, BW2, BW3. with the last set being released around the time TR was released (Nov 2nd right or was it Sept?) thus leaving us with 8 sets which for Japan make them have 9. they may release an expansion set or a mini set to make us have 9. HGSS on is very reasonable.

RE: Call Of Legends/rotation?

I think we should all consider the possibility of a reprinting of Claydol GE. It fits perfectly with the theme of the set, and would actually provide Stage 2 decks with a viable alternative to the speed of SP's. It would basically expand the metagame because of all of the decks that are currently nonviable simply because of the lack of setup. What decks would you play if it did end up coming out?

(Machamp Prime + Nidoqueen RR or Luxray AR + Kingdra Prime for me =P)

RE: Call Of Legends/rotation?

^magnegatr would become much much more popular. Flygon would come back. stage 2 decks would be able to keep up with LostGar and Sp decks.

RE: Call Of Legends/rotation?

^MagneGatr would be much LESS popular. It has a huge advantage in Magnetic Draw, which it would pretty much lose. Flygon would come back, but I would like to point out that LostGar (unless it's MewGar) IS a Stage-2 deck...
