Giant Plant Forest – Trainer
Stadium

Each player’s [G] Pokemon can Evolve during the first turn and on the turn they were put into play.

This card stays in play when you play it. Discard this card if another Stadium card comes into play. If another card with the same name is in play, you can’t play this card.

M Sceptile-EX – Grass – HP220
Mega Evolution – Evolves from Sceptile-EX

When 1 of your Pokemon becomes a Mega Evolution, your turn ends.

Θ Stop: Prevent all effects of your opponent’s Pokemon’s Abilities done to this Pokemon.

[G][C] Jagged Saber 100 damage. You may attach up to 2 [G] Energy from your hand to your Benched Pokemon in any way you like. If you do, remove all damage from each Pokemon you attached them to.

When a Pokemon-EX has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

Weakness: Fire (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 2

A couple questions regarding the upcoming released stadium:

If I were to use a an evo soda on a basic pokemon, could i use two evo sodas on turn 1 to evolve it to stage 1 and stage 2?

Does the stadium nullify the description on the item card stating it can't be evolved the first turn its been put down?

And if so, can I do the same with a mega evolution?

This might get kinda complicated. I'll try to be clear. :p

No, you can't use multiple Evosoda on a single Pokemon evolution line in the same turn, because of the wording on the card: "You can't use this card during your first turn or on a Pokémon that was put into play this turn." Basically, that means the Basic has to be in play for a turn before Evosoda can be used on it. And then, the latter part of the wording prevents that Stage 1 from also evolving that turn, because it technically is put into play that turn.

In a scenario:
Seedot is put into play on turn 1. He can't evolve with Evosoda yet, because it's still the first turn. Next turn, Evosoda is used to evolve him into Nuzleaf. A second Evosoda can't be used now because he was put into play this turn. Next turn, Evosoda is used to evolve him into Shiftry.

As you can see, it took three turns to work within the rules on the Evosoda card. This would be the case even if Giant Plant Forest was in play. (There are some exceptions, like Flashfire Caterpie/Metapod/Butterfree due to their abilities, but exceptions are rare.)

Giant Plant Forest (GPF) is a way to get a full Stage 2 evolution in one turn. It says: "Each player’s [G] Pokemon can Evolve during the first turn and on the turn they were put into play." This means, for example, you could place Seedot, then evolve it into Nuzleaf right away, and then evolve it into Shiftry that same turn. (This all occurring from your hand, that is.)

There is some nuance here, though, when it comes to GPF and Evosoda.

Since Evosoda does not work on Pokemon that were put into play that turn, you couldn't, say, play Seedot, evolve into Nuzleaf with the stadium, and then use Evosoda to evolve into Shiftry. That would break the rule. You could, however, evolve a Seedot that is already in play for one turn into Nuzleaf with an Evosoda, and then utilize the stadium to evolve further into Shiftry from your hand.

In other words, the stadium does not nullify the ruling of Evosoda. But, they can be used together to get your Stage 2 out if it's not the Basic's first turn. Ideally, though, you would simply run Ultra Ball, or some other direct-to-hand Pokemon search item, in order to utilize GPF's free evolution.

Further nuance occurs with the Wally trainer, who does allow same-turn and first-turn evolution. In conjuction with GPF, you could hypothetically manage to play a Basic to Stage 2 evolution line within the same turn using Wally.

To answer your question about Mega's: the GPF will allow same-turn evolution for them as well, but it will still end your turn, of course. Spirit Link is the only way around having your turn end from Mega-evolving. Since Evosoda is not nullified by GPF, the above-mentioned scenarios would still apply.

Hopefully that wasn't too messy!

A quick note to those reading:

This answer was posted before the thread was moved to the "Ask a Prof." section, and was not answered by a certified Pokémon Professor.

Professors will not comment on questions regarding unreleased cards. Once Ancient Origins comes out in English, we will be more than happy to answer any and all questions to the best of our ability! :)

I know the set hasn't been released yet so I don't know if you can still answer this but why would Caterpie and Metapod's ability let you bypass the ruling on evosoda and let you use evosoda the turn they're played on but this new stadium wouldn't? From what I can see from the not official translation, both the stadium and adaptive evolution are worded the same way so they should work the same right?

As per the compendium:

Q. Can I use Evosoda on a Caterpie the first turn of the game or the turn that Caterpie is played since "Adaptive Evolution" says it can evolve in those cases?
A. No, you can't use Evosoda to evolve in either of those conditions because the text on Evosoda specifically prevents it. (May 29, 2014 TPCi Rules Team)

So, you cannot use Evosoda in those cases.

Still cannot comment on GPF until we get an official translation

Oh ok, thank you. I was just going off the comment from Purrloin where he/she said "As you can see, it took three turns to work within the rules on the Evosoda card. This would be the case even if Giant Plant Forest was in play. (There are some exceptions, like Flashfire Caterpie/Metapod/Butterfree due to their abilities, but exceptions are rare.)". In that quote I thought he/she was saying that Adaptive Evolution would let use the Evosoda on turn one or the turn you played the Caterpie or Metapod. Thanks for clearing it up, I thought it was weird :)

Ok i cannot seem to find a reliable answer online on this, so what is the real ruling?:), does FGP not override Evosoda's effect?:)

The text on Evosoda has to be fulfilled in order for you to evolve. Evosoda doesn't care if the Pokemon /can/ evolve or not. You're simply not allowed to target a Pokemon that just evolved or that came into play that turn.
