BW/BW2 Can You Participate In Japanese Events With A Japan Pokemon Black On A U.S. DS Lite

I have a japanese copy of pokemon black and i am playing it on a american ds lite, can i still participate in a wi-fi event, for example the liberty ticket, will it work?
