Card Condition(s) for Album/Collection

Hello! I would like to know what sort of card condition(s) do people consider for their Album/Collection. Do you specifically get Mint/Near Mint cards? If you do, do you buy them off online websites? Because in my experience, Near Mint cards that I buy off online website can be scratched pretty badly scratched on the Holo part. Does that mean you're okay with a scratch card going into your collection? Or would you simply sell/trade it away to get a Mint version of the card? I'm basically asking this out of curiosity. Likewise, I would like to hear the feedback from my fellow PokeBeach members.

I prefer Mint to near mint but till i find a better conditioned card i'll accept Good as long as no creases or scratch's

As far as collecting goes, I'm really picky with card conditions. I won't even trade for it or buy it unless it's at least Near Mint or if it's something I really, really need.

Here goes: cards in my personal collection must be Mint or Gem Mint (by PSA standards, though I don't actually grade many cards). I will make exceptions for rare cards but even then I won't keep a card that wouldn't grade at least as a PSA 8. It is rare that I will keep cards below that and even then I intend to replace them as soon as possible. How crazy is that? :p

Oh I see. That's usually what I would do but majority of time, there are always scratches on the Holo. This is the case if I buy them from online card shops. Sometimes Near Mint looks as if they have been Played. I really wish that they would ship the Holo/Reverse Holo cards in sleeves though.

I feel for you Brave Vesperia! I too am really picky with the card conditions. I'm even more critical if it's a card that I really like. I would simply sell off the poor condition ones in order to get a Mint/Near Mint replacement. Wouldn't mind paying more as well just to ensure the quality.

Wow, that's really awesome! It sounds really expensive as well. How often would you replace your PSA 8 for a PSA 9/10? Would you keep it for very long? Also, I remember seeing somewhere that you had a binder full of EX's and Shiny's. Are these cards in Mint/Gem Mint as well? To be honest, I don't think it's crazy at all. If I had the financial means, I would probably do the exact same thing as you. But since I don't, I try my best to look for cards that are at least stated Mint on eBay. This is because most Near Mint cards from online shops ain't really Near Mint (Or in my eyes at least).

On a side note, has anybody ever bought from Collector's Cache? I hear they don't buy cards and that their cards are all 'Booster Fresh'. I also read that the cards are usually Mint and will be shipped in a sleeve. Is this true? I actually intend to buy a couple of Full Arts from them but I would like an opinion first.

I bought Japanese 1st edition cards from them years ago. I never had a complaint about product or shipping.

That's great to know! Looking forward to purchasing from them then. The card I want is out of stock for the moment so I'll have to be patient. Though, how do they ship their cards? Wrap it in a piece of paper and in a bubble padded envelope?

I generally prefer NM/M cards (I think pretty much all collectors do!) but I'm not terribly picky, since I'm a rather low-key collector.

I see. Do you usually get them off eBay shop online for the cards? Or do you break booster boxes to build up your collection? Just curious.

I like to keep my collection in a mint condition as much as possible. Though I do keep NM. Anything below that I will just reject it or if it is a rare card, I will keep it and trade it for something in a N/NM condition.

That's exactly the same as me! Though, I'm really particular about scratches and finger nail marks. Even some Near Mint cards that I've gotten has that sort of issue. So usually I sell them off to acquire another one.

NM/M is fine with me, but for really rare cards I'll take less.

Shouldn't really Rare cards be in Mint/Near Mint? Or is it because they are harder to get?

I generally buy and open booster boxes and then trade. I have bought some stuff on Ebay in the past, but I prefer to buy sealed product.

I see. Well, I suppose that it's much more fun to open up booster boxes as compared to buying individual cards. Would love to do that as well. Too bad that boxes here are really expensive.

Maybe a bit of topic but.. I would suggest buying online, that's what I do and it's still cheaper than buying from a shop here in sweden :D

Technically, I don't think it is off topic because it relates to cards for your collection. It just specifies where you should make your purchase from. Anyhow, I agree with what you said. It's really sometimes just to purchase online. Only concern is that you can't see the condition of the cards beforehand.

I recently bought 4 ex's from XY from three online sellers, they were "Buy now, 3 left or 1 left" so you didn't see the card you were getting beforehand. Kind of like ebay stores from home.

One actually said it was in good condition, but pack to sleeve so I kind of took a chance. Personally I don't care if the card is a PSA 10 graded card as long as it doesn't have scratches or creases. Just from the pack to the sleeve. Luckily all 4 were in great condition.
