Cave Story Wii!

A few weeks ago, one of the greatest WiiWare titles ever released up to that point (and until forever) was released.

If you haven't yet had the pleasure of playing Cave Story (it's a freeware title with an English translation patch as well as ports to both Mac and Linux), then you should almost definitely get the Wii version. In fact, even if you have played the freeware version (such as myself), considering how much the Wii version adds...reworked graphics and music (and the option to play with the original ones), a boss attack mode, a time attack mode, and the option to play as Curly Brace. Curly Brace! Who doesn't want to play as Curly Brace? I sure did.

Now, you may be thinking, "Well Zenith, that's all and good, but what does the game even constitute?"

Here is the official description:

Cave Story is a jumping-and-shooting action game.
Explore the caves until you reach the ending.
You can also save your game and continue from where you left off.

It's a Metroidvania/shooter type of game. With some RPG elements.

Lots of fun all around!

(remember to get the Tow Rope before fighting the Core!)

I have to wait for this to come out over in UKland :(

But when it comes out it will be one of THE titles of the year for me, and I will DEFINITELY be getting it. Man Cave Story is one of the best things I've played this year, without a doubt.

Oh I've played it alright. Haven't gone into hell yet, but I've definitely played it... gone through the rest of it. lol.

I really didn't like the Nemesis though. It was too hard for me to use; I always seemed to do more damage with the Spur for w/e reason. It's not just the inverse levelling either, it's just genuinely not that awesome to me.

I never even get the Spur in most of my playthroughs because I prefer the Machine Gun. Nemesis is a pain to use properly.

I also really like the Blade, for whatever reason.

Blade is an absolute life saver if you attempt a 3 HP run like I'm doing. At lvl 3, spamming the blade protects you against onslaughts of enemy projectiles and the like. Also does some pretty hefty damage. It's my second favourite weapon, losing only to Nemesis (again a difficult gun to use, but the best when you master it).

Currently trying to beat the Core boss (where you get the Tow Rope). I can often get it down to a slither of health, but finishing the thing off without taking a hit is very difficult ;9
