Cheren vs. Sage's Training

I think that Sage's Training is the better of the two. In this format, the need for speed surpasses all other things, and Sage's is just that. I hear some people saying that they like Cheren better in trainer lock, but I still think Sage's is better even in these kinds of decks. The only trainer lock decks really run is The Truth and Gothitelle, and those decks REALLY need to get the T2-T3 trainer lock in order to be able to continue setting up. In slower decks that dont take very long to set up, such as Durant, I think Cheren is better as they dont need as much help to set up and it would be worse for things to be discarded.

I like to run Cheren because in my decks, everything I play is vital (and I don't own many Sage's, but still). Granted there are some stuff for consistency sake (i.e. 4 Collectors) but not enough to bank on hitting one or two of them if I play Sage's. I rather run something like another Juniper or PONT or even Twins instead. With Cheren, I like a straight up three instead late-game, when I simply need cards. The max I would run is 2 of any really, when I like playing 4 PONT and 3 Juniper as a supporter base.

And for the Good Rod debate, Good Rod is bad. It can be a fun card when used correctly (with Noctowl) but because it goes back to the top of your deck it is a waste of a card slot when Junk Arm is clearly better.

As some other members have touched on, the biggest problem with Good Rod is ultimately the fact that the card goes on top of your deck instead of your hand. Not being able to predict what you get (pokemon or trainer) is annoying, but might have been worth it if you got the card right away. However, the fact you have to wait a turn or blow a pokepower on getting the one card is really clunky and makes a somewhat unreliable card too slow to be of practical use. It might have seen use before, but Junk Arm, as venasour x pointed out, renders Good Rod completely worthless.

Definitely based on the speed you want to accomplish. Speed would be higher the faster you dig into your deck, assuming your deck is built well. Digging down 5 cards with the option of what to take is faster but certainly more dangerous. I think Cheren is a fine option for any sort of tool box deck or deck that doesn't run a tight combo like Magnezone/Yanmega. Having to discard crucial cards to your combo is very unfavorable.

How is it dangerous? Unless your against Durant, there is nothing dangerous about Sage. Most often Sage will discard some things that wouldn't be needed.
