Okay so I'm playing white version currently haven't made it too far but I was wondering something about trading Pokemon. In the past I used an action replay on my platinum version and somewhere I heard that once a game has been used by an action replay it cannot be used at tournaments. I wasn't bothered too much by it but now I am because I want to enter in some.

My question is if I start over on platinum without using action replay, then trade any Pokemon from my platinum game to my white game will I still be able to enter into tournaments with my white version. And will the Pokemon I catch in both versions be able to enter in tournaments?

Thanks for everyone's help.

Whoever told you games that have used Action Replays before are unusable, don't believe them. For one thing, only certain hacks and codes are illegal (IV changing codes, learn-any-attack, etc.). Second, if you start over your game, all data on the cartridge will be deleted, including all evidence of Action Replay use.

If they only codes you've used are infinite Rare Candies, walk-through-walls, or immediate catch codes, don't worry about getting caught. Hacks that don't effect a Pokemon's limitations and abilities are not illegal, but are frowned upon by some veteran players.

Now to answer your question, yes, starting over your game will erase all remnants of Action Replay use, and all Pokemon obtained in the game will be legal. The same goes with your White game (as long as you don't use certain illegal hacks in that game). Pokemon from all generations starting with Generation III are legal in tournament use, as long as they aren't hacked or are "uber legends". So yes, Pokemon obtained in Platinum can be used in tournaments using your White game.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask!

What about hacked Pokemon such as getting the Azure Flute with AR to get Arceus? Would the Pokemon be illegal to use?

Even if you restart after using an AR doesnt it make it so that the cart would be flagged since the cart has been used by an AR. Even if they or you start over there is a slight chance of being caught. It is always best to get 2 carts of the same game if you use an AR that way you have one game for AR use and the other UT. I would not take the chance because after going a long way then finding out that you can't get in would seriously make me breakdown because I went there not even knowing that even the slightest use would boot me out XD. Buy another White version to be safe XD.:)

Technically yes, since the Azure Flute was never actually released, and thus it wouldn't be legal to use. (Of course, Arceus is forbidden anyway as it's event-exclusive, but that's beside the point.)

What if it was something that WAS released to get a legendary but you used AR to get it?(In a scenario where the legendaries are eligible for competitive play)

The encounter would still be legitimate, so it would pass the hack check. Yes, the item is hacked, but hacked items don't seem to ring up. As long as there isn't something like a Mew caught on Route 202, it should work.

Would they be able to pick up any item hacks? Such as x999 rare candies even if you delete them all?

It shouldn't. Nothing is editing the code of the Pokemon in a foreign way. Mind you, my basic knowledge of hack checking is based on Gen IV, so stuff might have changed.

Arceus has been released technically but not the way they did it in Japan though. If it is a Japanese Azure Flute you should be able to do it but I don't know. The Pokemon is legit weather if you used the item hack or not. What makes it a hack is the way you get the item to do it. That is why it is considered a hack. The Pokemon itself IS legit though.:)

No, you're wrong. If you restart, you are effectively starting from a brand new cartridge with no previous data on it at all.

I know this question has more to do with Gen IV than V, but I figured it has enough to do with the topic that I could ask it here. If I were to use an AR to get the Enigma Stone in HG, then I caught Latios, the Latios would be legit and allowed at tournaments, correct?
