What are your opinions of modern technology & how it is affecting society? It's advancing too quickly, I mean, you get the newest Labtop/gaming system and then immediately after they come out with a better version of it.

What are your opinions on the necessity of technology? I think it's convenient, but, people rely on it too much, I wonder how they'd react to a power outage...

What are your predictions for the future of technology?
Is it good? Bad? Addicting? I'd say a combination of all three, good, because we can develop technology that can lead to curing cancer, etc. Bad because we can create super weapons of mass destruction (bigger nukes), etc. And addicting because, well, look at what technology can already do, then make it, say, 10 times bigger? Yeah, it could be addicting.

What are your opinions of modern technology & how it is affecting society?
  • Modern technology is incredible, but there's still plenty of room for improvement. From where I see it, recent advances in technology mainly affect the social interaction aspects of society and lately there haven't been many "major" life-changing advances to some of the larger issues in life. No major breakthroughs in transportation, medicine, things like that. There really needs to be something so revolutionary it changes the world forever, something more than just a new phone or tablet. Something earth-shattering.
What are your opinions on the necessity of technology?
  • I honestly feel it's a necessity only if one makes it that way. People can live just fine without a phone or the computer, but it does affect how you're able to live your life. With so many things requiring technology (some schools make students get laptops, jobs need phones, etc.) it would be hard to live "comfortably." I haven't had a phone in years and I've been just fine, but I've had to use my mom's phone when filling out forms.
What are your predictions for the future of technology?
  • There will probably mainly be more social advances than anything else. I'd like to see some kind of major transportation breakthrough within my lifetime, but I doubt it'll happen. Not just a new fuel, but some kind of new machine that's safer than a car and can move faster... I'm stick and tired of how dangerous and inefficient (okay, maybe not completely inefficient, but they could be better) cars are.
Is it good? Bad? Addicting?
  • Technology isn't addicting to me, and it has its positives and negatives.

What are your opinions of modern technology & how it is affecting society?
I think it's pretty good, but I'm unsure on society. Seems like some stalkers actually hack into your account and come to your house, so I'm staying clear of that area.
What are your opinions on the necessity of technology?
A little too necessary, I would say. Some kinds cause pollution.
What are your predictions for the future of technology?
I can't really tell, to be honest. Look outside.
Is it good? Bad? Addicting?
As Equinox said, it's all three. I can't imagine being scared of having no Internet for three days.

Discuss Technology.
What are your opinions of modern technology & how it is affecting society?

Technology is a great thing! OF COURSE! OF COURSE! Who would disagree? :p Technology has huge effects on society as a whole. Technology has made a number of things either more convenient or more possible. Tons of medicines have been found because of our recent advancements in technology. Hear about the Higgs Boson Particle recently? I can promise you they used some serious technology to find out about it. I think it was a Haedron Particle collider... can't be sure ;P Look at smaller, more day-to-day things. Recent technology has given forms of communication that we never even knew we wanted. Facebook is a beautiful use of technology to make communication a lot easier. The point is that technology has influenced all sectors of our daily lives for the better.

What are your opinions on the necessity of technology?

Technology is necessary for the growth of society. From the invention of the wheel (that is a form of technology) to the invention of the PC (not mac... mac is horrible for society ;P), technology has grown with society. Without the advancement of technology, society would be in a perpetual state of status quo. New jobs would not be created due to there being nothing new to make and sell. Technology has given us everything that we use in some way, shape, or form, so of course it is very necessary in society.

What are your predictions for the future of technology?

The sky's the limit! Moore's law is very much in effect (hardware used for computation will double in capacity every 18 months). Within the next 20 years, it is very possible that we'll see terrabyte storage devises the size of a penny. We'll probably see even more integration of our lives into the internet. Nearly everything will be automated within the next 20 years. Taxes to laundry, most of what we will do in 20 years will be controlled by a computer in some form. I'm already wiring my house to control all systems (phone, lights, window blinds, washing machine, etc) from my iPad. Within 20 years, that won't be "nerdy stuff"... it'll be normal. The private sector will see a boom in technology soon... just as soon as we drop the whole recession thing and move towards brighter days.

Is it good? Bad? Addicting?

Good. No question about it. As far as addicting, are we talking mentally addicting or physically addicting. If mentally addicting, YEAH! Literally anything can be mentally addicting... you just have to find the right person. I have a cousin who could be considered mentally addicted to flushing toilets. He NEEDS to flush every toilet he sees. He has a VERY WEIRD addictive personality and clings to flushing toilets. Others with addictive personalities might find technology or punching kittens addicting. It depends on the person. If we're talking about actually addicting, or physically addicting, technology cannot be considered addicting. It does not create a reliance similar to actual addictive things... most commonly drugs (alcohol, caffeine, tobacco)

What are your opinions of modern technology & how it is affecting society?

Personally I believe that modern technology is amazing. Technology has been advancing so quickly in the last 50 or so years. I mean seriously I am only 16 years old but I've experienced the old "box" television and now have a "smart" television, dial-up internet connection to now the high speed broadband internet which is soon to be released in Australia, brick phones to Smart phones. Just looking back to reflect on these massive changes in such a short period of time is amazing. Heck there are even "smart" washing machines now..

These advances in technology are also opening up new possibilities for the field of science, as well as for developments in medicine. With this rapid increase in technology, these fields are being revolutionised, now being able to experiment theories that were once thought to remain as that, theories, unable to be tested due to the technology present at the time

What are your opinions on the necessity of technology?

I believe that in today's society, technology is required. Personally, I go to a technology school and so we use Tablet Computers in all subjects. This method opens up a whole new world of learning as opposed to the "paper and pen" method. Being able to use Wi-Fi during school and classes, teachers can now easily distribute resources and even helpful websites to assist the students.

Technology has allowed for faster communication through longer distances and is still continuing to grow and revolutionise how businesses work and how the staff interact each other. Technology has allowed businesses to exist, with out even needing to "own" a shop, so costs can be reduced due to no rent needing to be paid, as well as electricity and staff wages being decreased for internet businesses. Technology even on a smaller scale such as toasters, ovens, cars, etc has allowed for the human race to become more efficient in their tasks, and allow for more time to be spent either working for their living, or to relax, while the "machines" handle the cooking.

Technology has become such a large role in modern day life, that I can't even begin to imagine where we would be as a race with out it. What we define technology as or its limits can greatly impact this but we would be living just like every other animal on this planet with out any form of technology, which means no weapons development or anything, leaving us humans virtually useless when it comes to the "wild," having no special abilities or qualities whatsoever.

What are your predictions for the future of technology?

I can't even begin to imagine the limits of what humans could do with technology. Even in my lifetime, I can foresee great developments in technology. There's of course the the idea of fully functioning virtual gaming systems, faster and more energy efficient cars, brand new jobs being opened up by these developments in technology, the cure for cancer being finally cemented? and many more problems that arise for humans, as well as the earth in general. I honestly believe that in my lifetime, almost all houses would be classified as "smart houses," where almost everyone is run through some sort of computer system or otherwise.

Is it good? Bad? Addicting?

There is no doubt that technology is addicting. In modern day society, people live on their devices, whether it be their laptop computer, tablet or smart phone. We constantly update our lives on social websites such as Facebook and thrive on communication with other people such as on forums like Pokebeach. I believe that there can be good and bad arising from technology, or more so an addiction to it. Obviously with the world obesity rate being frightening, sitting down on a computer for long periods of time is not a good thing at all. However this connection to the world which would otherwise be impossible is a very good thing in my eyes. Being able to communicate with other people all over the world, allows people to observe cultural differences and mannerisms can help feed our want for knowledge.
I believe that with moderation, there isn't anything wrong with technology, with only positive outcomes arising, however it is not exactly in our nature to want to do things in moderation, particularly things that we enjoy...

So yeah that's my view on technology ^.^

Are we better off now than we were 10 years ago? 30 years ago? 50? 100?

The answer for the vast majority of the population is yes, and the positive impact of growing technologies can take responsibility.

As for the whole thing about a better thing coming out the next day, well, thats what they want you to think. There really isn't much of a difference in terms of ease of use between a laptop, phone, or tablet that came out a year ago, from one that just came out. Technology companies will purposely withold features they already have developed, so they can put it onto a newer model and make you buy it. Retina Display is a fitting model of this. As for it taking over people's lives, I think its more of addiction/bad choices. People who are addicted to the internet are their own problem. As of now, it is not necessary for the vast majority of people to be on the internet/technology excessively.

From everything I just read, it looks like we depend on technology too much. Just saiyan. (not trying to troll)

Of course we do. Try living your life without technology or anything that technology gave you. You would have... literally nothing. Everything man-made around you has been made by technology in some way. Even some of the things that aren't necessarily man-made (such as bananas) have been modified with technology to be better for the user. If your talking about electronic technology (there's a difference), most people who bring up that concern are stuck in the past. Electronics are presenting new ways to do just about everything in our lives. Of course we're going to use electronics more than when they weren't as awesome. As technology increases, the things it can do will increase. Soon, many things will be automated. Kids growing up in that era might not know how to sweep the floor or do the dishes the same way we do. That isn't a reliance or addiction to technology. That's using your resources wisely and appreciating resources.

I didn't mean every piece of technology, it's just that I think it's important we try and do some things without technology. By what I said I simply mean we should not use technology as a crutch all the time.
