Community Skype!

I was invisible. I had a new group started, but you guys beat me to it.

As for the PM's, I usually check them and add everyone to the group right before the Skype. So if you didn't get a reply, I still got it. It's easier for me to find this way. Next time I'll make sure to post my Skype name ahead of time.

Great skyping with you all, we'll have another one soon. :)

That was a lot of fun. I like how the mods listened to everything we had to say.

Also, I like your accent, SR. :p

Something that I think will be important for future Community Skypes is setting discussion topics before the chat. Just chat, much like the last one, was just a member says something and we go along with it, and this makes things very off topic (but still very amusing :3).

Not worth it. No progress.

I think we should have discussion topics made beforehand.

If topics were put in place then the chat could have possibly been better; however, it wasn't all that bad. The chat did go off-topic a lot and it was a bit messy, so hopefully this issue is resolved the next time there is a Community Skype.

I think the main issue was the lack of people that showed up. A list of topics would be nice, too.

Yeah, I think we should have some questions prepared before it, and have one of the mods read the list when the chat starts. It was still pretty fun, though, despite everyone in charge leaving and madness ensuing.

I second this suggestion.

Thirded.

I really liked the way it happened last time. We had a list of people, and everyone talked about any suggestions/problems they had. And it worked.

Sounds good to me, next time we have a Community Skype, we'll come up with a list of discussion topics beforehand. :)

Not much as accomplished at the Community Skype. but a failure is not a failure unless nothing is learned. The problems were:

  • No topics
  • Not enough people
  • Not enough mods
  • Lag from inactives

    Possible Solutions:
  • Topics/problems that members have brought up
  • Time voted on (with multiple choices allowed), with 3+ dates

Nothing can be done about the lag. Maybe only one person can talk at a time?

That wouldn't actually eliminate lag without some kind of push-to-talk thing (something I think was implemented recently, actually). But I suppose it would make the issue non-problematic.

Can you at all tell who was having lag? Obviously, upload speeds are the major bottleneck in this.

I think I've brought it up before, but if you could manage to figure it out, would it be better to do this over Ustream, with one person streaming their screen, a few people in the Skype conversation, everyone in the chat, and invites for people to talk for 5 minutes or so? Probably not as functional as an all-at-once deal.

For the future, if you are going to be voice chatting, get a headset or something to filter out background noise. It is distracting and makes it hard to hear.

If not, mute your mic when you aren't talking.
