Overview
Have you ever played the board game Clue? Ever watched a murder-mystery film? Someone has died, yet the culprit is a mystery. You’re confined to a limited area with a murderer amongst the crowd. Every chapter, someone dies. It could be you. How are you going to stop this figure, let alone figure out his identity? In Convicted, not only will you race to figure out who the real killer is before you die, but you also have to be hesitant enough to make the right choice.
The main character is a Pokemon Detective by the well-renowned name of Croagunk. He serves as the primary character and is, safe to say, not the killer. The chapters will take place in his point of view as the story unfolds.
Now that the intro is out of the way, I just wanted to say that this is my first time hosting a game. I’m a moderator in the Creative Works forum, so there will be a balance between participation in the game and the writing itself. This game does not necessarily tag you as a particular character; instead, you merely create one yourself and sometimes give me a strip of dialogue in being that character. More information on this is regarded down below. I can’t wait to get this game started!
Character Customization
There are 14 different roles, and 13 of them (all but Croagunk’s) are open for your own customization. Each of the thirteen roles is merely a job description that you will take to relate a character to one person, the mayor. You must insert a Pokemon you think fits that role well and then give depth to that character. In the spoiler tag at the bottom of this post will be an example as well as the application itself. Pretty much anything goes as long as it fits the rules and isn’t completely inappropriate.
However, there is a catch (or a few, really): you can only submit one character in for a role unless more spots are left over after a few days. Your character’s background must include some sort of relation to the mayor (whom you would simply refer to as “the mayor” in your description). This requirement is so every character can have a motive to kill the first victim which is, you guessed it, the host of the party (I will explain the context down below). I will PM the person who created the murderer and explain what is going on and what he should do. Character applications will simply be posted in this thread.
Background and Characters
The story will take place in the mayor’s mansion, and he has invited all of the more respectable Pokemon in town to a party of sorts. This house is in Bafu Town of some region uninhabited by man. The mayor has also invited Croagunk, the town detective, due to his service in catching criminals. Croagunk is skeptical from the start with all of these powerful individuals in the building, but he is ready to examine the evidence once the mayor is found dead. The following list of occupations is for you to choose a Pokemon that fits it well:
Gameplay
Once all roles are assigned and descriptions are made by you, we can begin.The first chapter will introduce everyone and lead to the Mayor’s death. Small clues will be given here and there to bring out the real killer, but the direct conflicts going on are back and forth accusations.
At the end of each chapter, someone new will die. However, another person will be framed or accused of the murder after discovering the new body. The member who created that character will get to form an alibi and then cast the blame on a new Pokemon, which will shift the focus for the next chapter to an entirely different angle. This member will do this through PMing me so that the exchange of information is private. Your goal is to keep your character’s nose clean and still alive so you can watch in the sidelines for the real culprit.
As the game rolls out, you always have the option to PM me who you think the murderer is. Because we have a very limited amount of characters available, you can only have one guess. You must also give some evidence that the murderer was this person (you can’t just make a lucky guess). If you are right, then the chapter will conclude with you being the hero and helping Croagunk capture the villain. However, if you are wrong, your character is guaranteed to die in the following chapter. This means you will not know if you are right or wrong until I continue the story one last chapter, in which case I will either wrap up or continue on with the writing. Because the PMing process is private, no one will know if your character died because of a wrong guess or if just by chance.
You are both encouraged and discouraged to vote because even the slightest doubt can cost you the game. The killer is not going to be obvious, though, so you need to wait a few chapters before guessing. Once your character is dead, feel free to PM me and ask who the murderer was. However, you cannot disclose the information with the active players! Guessing is completely different from accusing! If you are going to guess, then you need to specifically ask if _____ is the murderer.
The murderer will carry on just like all of the other characters and create (fake) alibis and still cast the blame on individuals with reasonable motives. The only reason the murderer will know who he is would be to prevent him from guessing wrong and killing himself.
General Rules
- A character background or post-chapter accusation must meet the qualifications required or I will be allowed to deny the entry and write one myself.
- Your character descriptions must relate to the mayor in some way, shape, or form.
- Any character applications need to be posted in this thread!
- You must PM me back your reply (in the context of your character) within three** days so I can continue the game. Eventually, I will allow these discussions to go public. You're all too easily manipulated by evidence right now.
- You are not allowed to disclose what information you know for sure in the thread (how would you win?) and you cannot give away your guess if you were to lose. What you can do in the thread is talk about the Pokemon that died and speculate about what could have happened. You can, however react in the place of your own character and give me some ideas on what to do with it! That would be interesting for sure
- If you lost and know the answer, you cannot give hints or tell anyone. Your character is dead, and so you have no ability to speak anymore. Your creation might be mentioned in future chapters, but he is ultimately finished.
- Be careful with how much information you give! You want to win this game and catch the bad guy, but helping your friends will cause you to lose the glory.
- Be creative! These backgrounds can be borderline ridiculous / funny as long as they meet the qualifications and are appropriate enough to write about.

Remember that your backgrounds must tie into the mayor (such as the lawyer meeting him in law school or the cook working for him for over twenty years). You may create a motive for your character, but if you choose not to, I will myself. Applications will be due by November 14th! If there are spots remaining, then I will leave a day open for those who have already created a character to make another. After that day, I will make the rest myself and continue the story within a week from today. Your applications will go in this thread because that information can be viewed by anyone. The first chapter will most likely be posted on Monday, November 17th.
