If greninja in standard still had teammates then counter catcher would be one of the best cards in that deck .

This is correct, but counter energy only works on Non EX or GX Pokemon anyways so it wouldn't really matter in most decks. If you have a deck that runs non EX or GX as a tech, they typically use DCE for their attacks so counter energy is unnecessary.

I was of course implying that it was good in every deck as long as you have a non Ex or Gx to benefit from it.

Having a non Ex or Gx attacker is a must in most decks if you want it to be competitive. It provides a way to bypass things such as Hoopa Shl and Baby Ninetales and helps win the prize trade. My Ninja Box actually does not have a great non Ex or Gx attacker and is an exception. I use Latias-Ex to counter Baby Nintales and Hoopa and i use stall as a win condition when i am going against decks that try to win by trading.

Edit: This is irrelevant, I thought you were talking about Counter Energy lol. I see now that you were referring to Counter Catcher.

I was actually talking about Counter Energy but the same would apply to Counter Catcher. The problem with Counter Catcher is that it is a "dead" card that gets stuck in your hand unless you are behind. Counter Energy can at least be used even if you are not behind.
