Creating a Pokemon PC Strategy Game!

The game will be very similar to Cartoon Orbit and feature characters, items, and locations from many popular animes, comics, TV shows, movies, etc.

So far I have planned Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon to be included. If anyone would like to volunteer for to help on any other card sets, please let me know. I would be very interested in One Piece or Naruto since I don't have the knowledge to do those myself. The sets are relatively easy to make using Magic Set Editor found at http://magicseteditor.sourceforge.net/ . Of course, helpers get sneak peeks at more cards that will be in the game and get their name in the credits and on the cards themselves, so more than a couple benefits!

I definitely will; after all, what is the point in making it if I don't show it off :)

I'll probably post some screenshots to better give an idea of what I'm doing. There are a lot of decisions to be made still, mostly with how battles work themselves out. Giving some (mostly powerful or fully-evolved) Pokemon special abilities like ones that were in Orbit may be something I'll add.

If anyone has ideas or suggestions, please post them here!
 
Here are a couple screenshots, as you can see, the game hasn't been pretty-fied yet, but several of the functions of the game are now functional:

The beginning of the first Gym Leader battle. After the first three Pokemon are placed, two more slots open up and another set of Pokemon are dealt to replace the ones used in the first group.

This is the evolution screen. Evolution points are earned by winning battles and defeating Gym Leaders. Different Pokemon require different amount of evolution points.

What pics of the pokemon do you use? sprites?
.. i bet the game you're working on will be awesome
 
What program are you using to make this?
I've always wanted to make a game where you're the Pokemon and you send Trainer's and make them duke it out.
Anywho, the game looks like it's gonna be pretty good.
 
I'm using Visual Basic .NET 2003 to make it, as that's what I (legally) have access to, and I'm using mostly the Wikipedia pictures for the Pokemon. I plan on including custom Pokemon, so if anyone has some good ideas and good image-editing skills it'd definitely help me out.

Mind reader had something similar in Fan creations. He had sprites and Islands that he created so check them out there but so far it sounds like a good game.:)

Why wouldn't it be? As has been said, Mind Reader has (had?) something similar in Fan Creations. If this is in the wrong spot, it need only be moved.
 
This game looks awesome so far, but you might want to have the backround much better, I'm sure you could find something to make it look a lot better than one plain old color.
 
Yeah, I've got a couple background images for the main menu and duel intro screens, but I need to find or make some for most of the others... I'm still not sure what is best. Maybe someone can recommend something?

Thanks, but I can't really use their Pokeymans without their consent directly, and I'm not personally all into turning Dratini into Eevee :)
 
this seems like it's going to be really good. when do you think a test demo will be up by? i think you should do one soon i really want to play this it seems great.
 
Yeah, I remember Cartoon Orbit, and I used to be a member until unfortunately, it was shut down.

Anyway, a PC game with a different idea... I'm going to need to try out the demo, as I have a feeling I'll like this...

Thanks for all the positive feedback, I'll be doing some stuff today on it I think, I might be able to put something out that's sorta playable. I'll keep you updated throughout the day.
