Cubone Tank

Basically, what I'm proposing is a Reverse Gyarados Deck, using Cubone Triumphant's Pokebody along with 4 Discard Pile'd Marowaks to create a truly fearsome wall.

40 HP isn't anything to write home about, but that still pumps it to an equivalent 120 HP after setup. Flippy attack that can reach large amounts of damage for {C}{C} gives synergy with DCE and great freedom with a backup attacker to use. A single {C} for Retreat means Unown Q works with it.

Resistance to Electric lets Cubone survive a Flash Impact with 1 Marowak Discarded, or a Belt, which is cool.

Overall, I think this might be a successful deck in the future, although probably with the same degree of seriousness of "Weedle Eat Your Heart Out"

Thoughts?

Definitely fun, and will be unstoppable in a Poor Man's Deck competition (rare cards banned).

As far as I can tell though, there are too many ways around it. Dialga G will shut it down completely, and attacks that place damage counters will also get pass it's body. Not to mention the attack is way too flippy, you can't win just by defending.

I've been trying to tell Decmaster that this is a pretty flawed idea for several reasons, including the above ones. The biggest problem is that it doesn't have nearly enough HP or any good attacks.

I'm not saying that the idea hasn't got problems, it has. But, It also has the potential to slow games down to a crawl, while you slowly set up whatever energy costly beast you've been wanting to play for ages, but was too slow for the meta. I guess I see it as a splashable counter engine (admittedly, it doesn't survive against Dialga G LvX or Gyarados, but anything else is fair game)

Or, it could be used in along with Houndoom Prime, to burn your opponents pokemon, and tank with Cubone to inflict passive damage.

In a sense, its taking a step in an entirely different direction, and seeing whats gonna happen. Once Triumphant gets through Customs (Argh, Australia...) This will be my next project. Hopefully it'll work the way I hope it will.

Using the same Engine Gyarados does, Setting up a Fully tanked Cubone shouldn't be hard. Not much hits for 80+ without a Belt or Massive Energy cost, and since its a basic, your running 4 incredibly difficult to take down walls that are cake to search out.

Using Nidoqueen RR or Blisset PL can round off any damage that gets through, and with a Belt, they need to dish out 140 damage to OHKO. While it isn't a major offensive threat, its certainly a powerful defensive one. It would need to be partnered with a strong attacker to really do damage, but that doesn't stop you from taking pot shots with Bone Rush.

It probably wont be the next Top Tier deck, but I think its certainly something worth looking at.

Quad Exoskeletons? Possible 9000 damage attack for 2? Basic? Weedle can't even beat it.

Use a rigged coin and success :p

* Cough SF Machamp With One Fighting Energy says bye *

Yeah seriously. When Machamp has its Take Out,your screwed. It could have been nice, but eh,Dialga Lvl.X and Machamp SF will make this deck really easy to defeat.

With regards to the posts about Gyarados and Machamp, Cubone will most likely be a wall post-rotation.

I like how no one seems to have mentioned the potential use of Defender and Snowpoint Temple

Cubone = 40 HP
+ 4 marowaks (80)
+ 4 Defenders (80)
+ E Belt (20)
+ Snowpoint (20)

All adds up to the potential to only die from a 240 damage hit. Not that you'd ever throw all the defenders on cubone at once. Just saying, max potential.

But getting Cubone's HP up to 80 with Belt and Snowpoint will allow him to survive a great deal of damage counter placement.

^Agreed
Plus 3 more E Belts makes 300 the magic number... even w/o the defenders, it's still 220, or 110 from a water-type (gyara plus e-belt says hi for 5 prizes... oopsies). Love the idea though, this would still completely demolish any speed of an opponent's deck unless it's running DGX, Machamp SF, or Gyara... plus a teched-in Ambipom G could wipe out Garchomp C X. I don't think this is going to see any play, but certainly it's an interesting idea :p

Thanks for supporting the cause, vareki. I can't wait to see you're final list.

Run both Blissey and Nidoqueen. Blissey discards Marowaks, and Nidoqueen heals. Maybe run a 1-1 Blaziken FB Lv.X for Dialga G Lv.X.

The way I planned to run this deck was in a switch-out deck, almost like CurseGar, but instead of trainer lock, damage lock. My idea also ran some other stallers. For the full list, Click Here.

Here's a rough skeleton (Just listing what needs to be) :

4-4 Cubone TR
2-2 Blissey PT
2-1-2 Nidoqueen RR
1 Regice LA
1-1 Blaziken FB Lv.X

3 Junk Arm
2 Volkner's Philosophy

2 Recover Energy

Equals=26
With that list, there's a lot of room for flexibility. Of course, there's also room for lot more trainers and energies.

Shuppet is a very nice idea for this. I hadn't explored the synergy between Boomerangers and Cubone, mostly because I'd been focusing on the setup of a fully tanked Cubone as fast as possible. I'll have to look into it though.

My First List looks like this, at the moment. Tommorrow, I'll finally get my hands on the Triumphant Boosters I've been waiting for, So I'll start testing soon.

Pokemon 23

4-4 Cubone
2-2 Blissey PL
1 Regice/Registeel
1 Uxie
1 Unown Q
2 Jirachi RR
1-1 Infernape E4 LvX
1 Deoxys Defense Forme
1 Deoxys Speed Forme
1 Jirachi UL

Supporters 12

3 Twins
2 Volkner's Philosophy
2 Seeker
2 Bebe's Search
1 Palmer's Contribution
2 PONT

Trainers 15

1 Luxury Ball
2 Dusk Ball
4 Poke Drawer +
2 Expert Belt
2 Junk Arm
4 Defender

Stadiums 2

2 Snowpoint Temple

Energy 9

4 DCE
2 Psychic Energy
3 Fire Energy

Twins+Pokedrawer is my current favourite way of speeding through the deck. Use Twins to grab 2 Poke Drawers, Use Pokedrawers to grab two more Pokedrawers, then Grab 1 Twins and another card of your choice. If I'm using Jirachi RR at the time, I can just copy the effect of twins and grab 4 cards I need.

Anyway, Cubone is obviously the main card, and its all about setting him up. Regice/Steel, Blissey, Junk Arm and Volkner's pitch Marowaks, Jirachi RR helps to set up as fast as possible by doubling my Supporters, Uxie replenishes the hand to keep up with all that discarding (multiple uses with Seeker, if necessary) and the lone Unown Q is for free retreating wounded Cubones.

Infernape is my DGX counter, Free Retreat, and the honour of being able to KO a fully tanked (4 Special Metals+E-Belt) DGX. The high Energy cost is made up for by the bench Shuffling. For instance, I can force a switch into a basic, use Regimove to get exactly what I want out, and deal with it as I choose (obviously, the point is moot against SPs, but still).

Deoxys works as a Machamp Counter, using Psychic Defense to block Take Out, and hitting for 80, and then retreating for free with Speed Forme.

Jirachi UL was the best Gyarados Counter I could think of that took a single space in the deck.

Strategy is to tank hits against every common deck, using my counters to block anything that hits through Cubone's 'body.

So, what does everyone think?
