Recently saw The Greatest Showman. It's a phenomenal, uplifting, if embellished film that's worth a watch.

The other night, I watched Godzilla: Kaiju Wakusei, or Godzilla: Planet of Monsters in English. It was just released globally on Netflix, but came out theatrically in Japan in November. It's a CGI anime film about Godzilla with a bit of a twist: Humans left Earth to try and escape, but returned later on, but due to space shenanigans, they ended up returning 20000 years later. The focus of the movie is this relatively small group of humans trying to take the planet back from Godzilla.

Overall, a very enjoyable movie. It's the first part of a planned trilogy, so don't expect it to answer all of your questions; it sets things up for the rest of the series.

(Not gonna lie, I decided to post about it because of @Attix's signature).

I don't think it'll be in the cinemas any more, but it's recent enough in my mind to be current! I watched Wonder about a month ago, an absolutely loved it! I'd read the book about half a year beforehand and it's been shortlisted as one of my favorites ever since, and so was glad to find myself very much enjoying the movie too. There were a few points where I felt the movie was lacking in comparison to the novel (i.e. there was a pivotal twist that wasn't executed in a way that shocked the viewer as remarkably as it was done in the book), but certainly a very honest adaption overall.

It's actually been great to see so many good movies pop out of this last quarter! Funnily enough, I didn't find the most recent Star Wars episode particularly outstanding. Don't get me wong, it was a good movie, but it was just felt very long -- and unnecessarily so -- with many rather weird plot twists. It just felt all over the place for me. That said, there was a few scenes that I thought was spectacular and very well written/directed, in spoilers below because - uh - spoilers. I also liked how Luke was portrayed; found that amusing and a nice relief.

The twist where Kylo Ren killed Snoke with Rey's saber, very well acted. The scene where General Organa was pulled out to space (and subsequently returned) was rather nice as well, but also an example of a some little unnecessary especially because she remained absent for most of the film's remainder, only to magically return to consciousness near the finale. Eh.

My FAVORITE movies of ALL TIME (so far):

1) Cyberbully (2011) TV movie
A story about a teen girl who is bullied online by her classmates. Excellent movie, imo, it also offers some solutions on how to deal with bullying. Very relatable movie, highly recommended for teens and parents!!

2) Super Sentai 199 Hero Great Battle (2011)
I like this movie only because I'm a fan of Super Sentai series (Japanese Power Rangers). It brings together the first 35 sentai series for a climatic showdown! This is the Japanese equivalent of the (disappointing) English Legend War.

3) Bridge to Terabithia (2007)
Based on a novel by the same title, it tells the story of 2 kids who use their imagination to create a magical world. I am not into fantasy-type movies, but this one is great! The movie also won some awards.

4) Dumbo (1941)
A classic Disney musical about a circus elephant who is born different. I've never seen a movie in which the protagonist never speaks a single word, and I really like the moral of the story. Also, it's childhood nostalgia for me :)

ALSO LIKE:
Terminator Genisys (2015) - Lots of action, I just like the throwbacks to the previous Terminator movies.
Godzilla Final Wars (2004) - Godzilla returns with all the monsters for a cluster fest to celebrate 50 years of the franchise.

Movies I've RECENTLY SEEN (and kind of liked):
Pokemon: I Choose You! (2017) - Typical Pokemon movie, 20th anniversary movie for that matter. I got a Pikachu promo card just for going.
A Little Game (2014) - Chess is life, life is chess. Life changes just like chess.... or did I miss the point?
Cloned (1997) - ....ok movie. A mother suddenly finds another child who looks identical to her deceased son. The science lab where she works hides a big secret.

Movies I WANT TO SEE:
Power Rangers (2017)
Spider-man: Homecoming (2017)

The night it came out, I watched The Cloverfield Paradox. I have some thoughts about it, and I will post in a spoiler just in case. (Also, @bbb888, the 2017 Power Rangers movie is very entertaining!)

The Cloverfield Paradox is the third installment of the Cloverfield anthology series. I stress the word anthology, because people assume it's a direct sequel/prequel, but it isn't necessarily. It's within the same universe, but at the same time, TCP proves in-universe that there are parallel universes. It's an intense space romp without any b.s. romance subplots (main character is married/engaged/together with a guy) and her character isn't defined by her being romances. The cast is also diverse, with characters being from Ireland, Brazil, China, Germany, Russia, Great Britain, and USA.

Now, I loved this movie. There are definitely parts that weren't great, but as a movie in the anthology series, I strongly approve.

I've been waiting for this movie for so long, I had my shirt here weeks in advance. That crowd was larger than any crowd I've ever seen for anything in the Star Wars saga, and for sure any Marvel movie.

I went to go see '
Black Panther' tonight with some friends. Believe the hype, this was an absolutely amazing movie. Tragic yet amazingly written villain, well crafted plot, and some great fight scenes. I'll refrain from spoiling much more, but I'll say this: as an avid Marvel fan, this is the cream of the crop right here. [10/10, Loved].

On Valentine's Day, I saw two movies in theatres. Back to back, because my roommate told me that I might not want to be home after 7pm.

Movie One: Winchester. Based on stories about the old Winchester mansion, among the most haunted mansions in North America, said to be haunted by every victim of a Winchester rifle. 1906, shortly before the massive San Francisco earthquake of the same year, the story follows a therapist who was chosen to do a psych evaluation on Mrs. Winchester, who seemed a bit off.

The story was interesting. The atmosphere was definitely haunting, especially with the music. A ton of critics didn't like it, but I'm a sucker for horror, and this movie had me screaming in terror. I ran into a buddy of mine, and he was worried because he didn't want me to hear him scream. I told him it was fine, because I would be too. The friends I had met up with prior to this were constantly checking up on me to make sure I was okay.

Overall, 7/10. It would've been higher, but it was mostly jump scares that got me. Definitely worth a watch though.

Movie Two: Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. A sequel to the 1995 Jumanji starring Robin Williams. Despite being a sequel, it is fully accessible and enjoyable as a stand-alone film.

Can't really go into details on the plot, other than the fact that Jumanji is in trouble, and is also now a video game (which is explained nicely in the plot). The cast and acting was excellent, and the overall sense of adventure was amazing. I give it a 9/10. Bonus, it didn't give me recurring nightmares like the original did.

I went to see The Shape of Water recently. I thought it was pretty pretentious and not nearly as good as the critics are making it out to be.

I just finished watching Fullmetal Alchemist (like, literally just closed the Netflix tab and then found this thread).

I have a number of thoughts. No spoilers, though, so it is safe to read this if you have yet to see it.

Adaptation:
The original manga is 27 volumes long. FMA: Brotherhood is 64 episodes long. This live action adaptation clocks in at two hours and fourteen minutes long, including the credits. So how well did it adapt everything? Pretty well, if you ask me. Some of the most iconic parts are adapted nicely, though condensed, and other parts are cut. If this were a full series live action adaptation, that wouldn't be very good, but to fit roughly 24 hours of animated story into 2 hours, cuts need to be made. It would've been nice to see certain things expanded on some. Also of note is that the story takes its own path. Certain characters are missing, whereas others gain more focus than before. I personally find that the changes helped it get trimmed down very nicely.

Costuming:
This was what enticed me the most about the live action, back when it was first teased. The outfits look like they were taken straight from the anime, and I absolutely love them. The Hommunculi have a nicer design than in the anime. Their outfits are more detailed in a subtle way, which I find really added to the overall presentation. Also, their Ouroboros tattoos use the manga's design, which was an interesting choice. One particular bit I loved was the fact that they got Riza's hairdo perfect. I wasn't expecting it to look as nice as it does.

Characters and Acting:
I was really impressed with the acting in this. The actors were really able to capture the essence of the characters, which is very pleasing, considering the interesting characters were one of my biggest draws to the series in the first place. I was particularly impressed with Ryosuke Yamada's performance as Edward and Dean Fujioka's performance as Mustang. All of them looked fantastic as their respective characters. The buildup of the characters was well done, too, considering the time constraints.

Negatives:
My only real gripe with this adaptation was the CGI. It didn't feel up to snuff with current industry standards. Other than that, a minor annoyance is that certain things (fans know which two specific events I mean, I'm certain) didn't have as much of an emotional impact as they did in either version of the anime, or the manga. That is 100% because of the condensed nature of the narrative, though, so it is at least understandable.

Final Score:
I would give this a solid 9.5/10.

I just saw Black Panther last night, and wow it was awesome! Princess Shuri stole my heart, and M’Baku was so funny! There were some plot-holes here and there, but the movie was one of my favorites in the Marvel Universe. Will definitely see it again! 9/10

MINE:
1. Saving Private Ryan-
This is the greatest war movie ever made. Spielberg transports you to the battlefields of World War II unlike any movie has ever done before. Tom Hanks gives his best performance ever, which is saying a lot, and the ending is so emotional. It is a movie that is touching, thrilling, but most of all it is a harsh reminder of how horrible war really is. This movie is my favorite movie ever, because for the rest of my life, I will always be reminded of what those men did in WWII, because of how graphic and moving this movie is.

2. The Dark Knight-
A movie that achieves perfection in every way. The script is top notch, it is full of action, and the acting is superp all around. Heath Ledger gives the second greatest performance ever, and really makes you fear the Joker. The special effects are brilliant, and the story is thrilling and sends a powerful message.

3. 12 Angry Men-
A movie that takes place entirely in one room, that is about twelve jurors who must decide the fate of a kid charged with First Degree murder. eleven think he's guilty, and one thinks he's innocent. The one man is played by Henry Fonda, who gives the performance of a lifetime, and he has to convince the eleven jurors of the kid's innocence.

4. The Shawshank Redemption-
This is a movie about a man, TIm Robbins, who is wrongly convicted of killing his wife and her lover, and he is given a double life sentence in a maxim security, corrupt New England Prison. There he befriends Morgan Freeman, who plays another man with a life sentence, and the movie progesses with their life in prison. The cinematography is absolutely brilliant, and Morgan Freeman is excellent. The ending is very...very picture perfect, and the movie does an amazing job of showing how the outside world changes over time, while the walls of the prison are resistant to any time change.

5. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King-
In this movie Peter Jackson does a masterful job of rounding out one of the greatest trilogies of all time. A movie that won eleven academy awards, the all time record, LOTR ROTK, shows how Frodo must fulfill his quest of destroying the ring, while the forces of good try and hold off the evil Sauron's forces by fighting them head on. Elijah Wood gives an astounding performance where he develops the character of Frodo to the same amount of detail described in Tolkien's masterful books. Ian McKellen gives an amazing performace as the Savior like Gandalf. Every actor is really amazing. Andy Serkis, who plays Gollum, went through hell to play the role, and he achieved it brilliantly. The battle scenes are the most epic of any movie ever, and the charge of the Rohirrim is something that every movie lover must see. A truly epic and awe inspiring film.

6. Patton-
This is a World War II movie that is about one of the greatest military figures of all time. George S. Patton, played by George C. Scott. George C. Scott gives the greatest performance of all time as Patton. He is fiesty, agitating, outspoken, not the hero we wanted, but the one we needed. All of his successes are outweighed by his outspokenness, and stubbornness. The movie portrays Patton as a flawed god, who believes that he was reincarnated after having faught in ancient battles of old. The movie really takes the American's experience of World War II in Europe, and puts it into a nutshell. A really outstanding movie, that shows you what an amazing man he was.

7. Gran Torino-
This might be the best mix of comedy, action, emotion, and message of any movie ever. Clint Eastwood writes, directs, stars in, and produces this one. He got snubbed from any Oscars, but boy did he deserve them. Clint Eastwood plays his typcial , hardened, low key, old bitch. He's racist, and hostile toward pretty much every thing that moves. One of his Asian neighbors tries to steal his precious Gran Torino car. Eastwood stops him, and is really...really pissed. But strange circumstances make him a hero in the eyes of his Asian neighbors, and he befriends his next door neighbors. He helps them out, gets the son started at a job, and even is willing to sacrifice everything for them. A great American classic, and hilariously funny at some parts.

8. Forest Gump-
Tom Hanks gives another excellent performance in this movie, as the retarted Forest Gump. The story is really amazing, and has some extremely emotional pieces, and is also very funny. Forest Gump achieves so much with an IQ of 77. He is an all american football player, a medal of honor winner, a national celebrity ping pong champion, a shrimp boat company owner, and a founding investor in Apple. The movie's message is powerful: No matter what, if you can set your mind to do something, anything can be accomplished.

9. The Bourne Ultimatum-
Matt Damon plays the troubled ex-CIA agent Jason Bourne, a man who has amnesia, and cannot remember his past. Meanwhile the CIA has been hunting him for two years, and he is still on the run, trying to uncover his past. The CIA is starting covert opps programs to take out enemy targets that threaten US security. The cinematography is excellent and really makes you feel like you are in on the action. The pacing and editing is some of the best ever, and the story is very fulfilling in the end.

10. Blazing Saddles-
This is the funniest movie of all time. Full of great old Hollywood comedians like Mel Brooks, Gene Wilder, Harvey Korman, and Cleavon Little. I was kept laughing throughout the entire movie, and every gag was funnier than the next. Mel Brooks is one of the most talented comedians of all time.

So what are yours?

Also, my personal favorite games are, in no particular order:

'Avengers: Infinity War' ... Holy sh*t, I cannot put what I saw into words... But if you've kept up with Marvel this is undoubtedly a must-see... [?/10, I Don't Know].

The thing that was missing for me was more panther action. To much dialogue.

DON'T SPOIL PLEASE!

Nah, I put it in because I'm still trying to process how that whole movie went down. Sooooo much happened also I'm a she, thanks.

So, I have three additions to make.

First of all, I forgot to talk about Black Panther when I saw it on 10 March. The other two are A Quiet Place and Rampage, both of which I watched in theatre on Wednesday.

Black Panther: Absolutely incredible. Hands down my favourite Marvel Cinematic Universe movie (Deadpool is my overall fave Marvel movie though, still). The action was fantastic. Everything about the action scenes felt very alive and fun. My favourite part, though, was how beautifully multicultural it was. Wakanda isn't a monocultural society, and it shows that beautifully. The different tribes are based on actual groups from different parts of Africa, which thrilled me as a former Anthropology major. The story was also fantastic. Finally, Killmonger is probably my favourite villain in the MCU. 10/10

On Wednesday, I saw A Quiet Place with friends, then went to see Rampage alone afterwards.

A Quiet Place: This movie disturbed me deeply in the best way possible. One of the best horror movies I've watched in a long time (right up there with Get Out). The basic premise is that these creatures appeared, and they react to sound. They're extremely sensitive to sound, too. Like, regular talking level is enough for them to hear. The creature design is fantastic, too. 10/10

Rampage: Based loosely on the video game series of the same name, this is the highest rated video game movie on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 51%. It's no award winner, but it sure as hell was a fun time. And besides, it's got The Rock in it. 7/10 (only because of how fun it was)

I went to go see 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' a couple nights ago with my family. I remembered seeing some pretty bad reviews for the movie, and I can kind of understand them after watching it. It wasn't at all thrilling, and the exposition dragged for forever, and I still had more questions about the basics of "what was Han's life before he got where he was in the beginning?". There was also one part of the movie I really didn't understand, and in that same part an attempt to shock everyone (which if you watched the 'Star Wars Rebels' series you'd already know about). But besides that it was a good action movie, even if I don't find it necessary or particularly mind-blowing. If your a Star Wars fan, watch it. It's still better than the first two prequels. [7.5/10, Enjoyed].

Oh, I saw Deadpool 2 on the Sunday of opening weekend.

Absolutely incredible. Definitely not for younglings.

You're welcome, Canada.

I recently saw Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and I thought it was alright. I'd personally put it on the same level as the first Jurassic World (maybe slightly higher), although admittedly I do think it had some issues; there were some points where it tried to verge on being creepy and scary, some where it felt like just a generic action flick type, some where it tried to bring moral conscious and ethics to the forefront - and whilst it's not impossible for these things to work together, I think this film didn't put it together the right way.
Although to give credit, I thought it was very visually impressive, particularly the first half of the film. The actors did good jobs as well. The finale also perfectly sets up the next -and final- film in the trilogy, so hopefully they'll be able to redeem it.
Overall I'd give it a 7/10, if you're a fan of the franchise then maybe you'll enjoy it more (although I consider myself a fan and I've been fairly critical of it so), or if you're just looking for a summer action flick then I'd recommend it.

Any thoughts on Incredibles II?

I was pretty disappointed. Without going into any spoiler details, I felt the film was more episodic than anything resembling a linear sequel. I recognize that it's a children's movie fourteen years removed from the inaugural installment, but nonetheless, I expected more out of a Pixar. Their movies have never been complex in circumstance but where they've lacked sophistication they've won our dollars through deft characterization and smart storytelling. Neither of those came through for me in Incredibles II, leaving the film underwhelming and ultimately forgettable.
