Hello all,

I was just wondering if anyone knows where I can get the blanks for making Neo-era custom energy. I'd like to be able to do basic and special energy, and I'm having trouble finding the stuff. (I DO have the stuff for EX-era fake special energy, and some really nice tutorials, but that's not what I'm after at the moment.)

To give a little background, I'm just back to card faking after a very long absence. I got the idea into my head that it would be fun to make my own variant of the TCG, and I've begun work on that project. Thus, while I'll be making pokemon cards, I'll also need to make all the trainer and special energy cards fresh.

(I'm also open to suggestions on which era card blanks I should use. I really like CMP's Neo series style cards, but I currently have more resources to do EX series cards.)

Finally, just for fun, here are a few of my early attempts at custom cards:
 
I think I might be one of the only (if not the only) faker to have attempted Neo-era Special Energy. At least with updated blanks...you can see an example here.

I'll try and blank it out for you, if you think you'll end up going the Neo route.

Yea, I saw that. All your energy cards are really nice looking, both basic and special.

I will go with the Neo-era if I can find all the right blanks. I liked the old card layouts, and I dislike the EX cards lack of flavor text. If you could get those blanks for me that would be amazing.

Yeah I can get the blanks out for you...Energy, Special Energy, and otherwise (I haven't released all of the blanks but I can send them your way on an as-needed basis).
 
Do you (or does anyone) know where I can find a tutorial on Neo era faking? I have the tutorials for the EX era, but if there's something that has fonts and spacing information for Neo era cards I'd appreciate it.

(If not, some trial and error will suffice, I suppose.)
 
I don't have a tutorial made, but I can let you know via PM about sizes and such. My cards are the same size as PokéBeach scans, so my sizes and placement are almost completely accurate (I typed over Darkness and Metal Special Energy scans before altering the text for my card). In fact, I can just send you a PSD file of my Nature Energy so all you'd need to do is change the fill colors and text. Let me know if that would work for you!
 
Wow, they are really well made, nice job dude.
The font seems to be the right one, the spacings as well.
I think the bg for the fire electric one should be a ring of fire, instead of plain fire. It should be like the other 2, with a perspective focused on the center, if u know what I mean.

Thanks for the good word, guys! (And Wang, you have a point. I may be remaking these in Neo form, and I'll take that into consideration when I do.)
 
So, I decided to go with an energy blank of my own. I've been trying to figure out the best way to do dual-type energy on it, like the old ones I posted above. Here's my first try. I'd appreciate constructive feedback--especially about how to bring the two energy symbols together. I'm not sure the fade I used was the best option, but I'm having trouble coming up with anything better.

 
Love the blank! Personally, I think the fade you used between the energy symbols looks great. I don't think you really need the "/" between the energy symbols in the top right, but that's your choice.
 
Agreed with squirtli. Love the blank and how you merged them, but the slash seems unnecessary.
 
Thanks guys! I'm glad you think it turned out; I've stared at it too long to tell. I'll make another version with no slash.

My plan is to make a bunch of these. Probably not all 45, that would be crazy, but I'll make one to go with any Pokemon I make that has attacks requiring two types of energy. Thus darkness/fighting is next. I have no clue what to call it...

CMP, could I possibly get a big version of your poison symbol from you? I can fit it into a circle and do the shading, but I need the outline. (I'd try tracing it myself but I only have Photoshop Elements and thus no decent vector tools.)
 
These look pretty cool. I like your custom blank, but the bottom of the cards seem kind'a empty. I suggest putting the standard illustrator credit, copyright, set number, and set symbol down there, not just to look more official, but to help balance them out.
 
Good point, Ryo. I'll add art credit and copyright to balance things a big. (I'd add set numbers too, but I don't know what they're going to be yet.)
