Dark Toolbox

how do you handle mirror matches/other dark variants ie the plain Yveltal/Mew builds?
Basically, I just try to outplay my opponent. I do assess my opponent deck's resources and try to use my resources more effectively. Sometimes, these particular matches can be based upon who hits the most Max Elixirs early.

For the mirror match it's heavy on the Fright Night Yveltal really, and try if at all possible not to bench your Shaymin because that's the obvious Pitch-Black Spear target. But yeah, like TuxedoBlack says, a lot of the time the mirror match comes down to who gets set up first which, with this deck, is largely who gets Elixirs first and who hits the most.

So the xerneas break/giratina matchup is not great.
But, Dark Toolbox vs. Xerneas BREAK/Giratina is not unfavorable. Your Darkrai EX, Mew, and/or Zoroak can all be used effectively in this match-up. Plus, when you use Parallel City and hopefully "limit" their targets for energy reception (if some of their benched, energy-laden Pokémon are not discarded), those Pokémon become your Lysandre targets for KO which will subsequently, hopefully, limit the opponent's Xerneas BREAK's damage output. Also, Giratina EX is definitely an underdog vs. Yveltal EX; and Yveltal (BKT) can help a lot too.

yeah I got hasty with my stadiums, and once he got fairy garden out and chaos wheel i was a bit screwed. Also I should have hit his benched giratina with pitch black spear instead of going for the cheap shaymin knockouts so he doesn't bring giratina into the active.

update: been finding that I have a lot of dead hands so i cut 1 trainer's mail for another shaymin ex. Using ultra ball to get out of them is pretty powerful and i can always parallel city myself to get rid of them if necessary. the benefits outweighed the risks.
