Darkrai EX donk?

I was looking at the scans on the front page this morning, and I saw some amazing things for a new donk deck.

Staples:

Darkrai EX - Darkness - HP180
Basic Pokemon

Ability: Darkness Cloak
As long as this Pokemon is in play, all of your Pokemon with any Darkness Energy attached to them have no retreat cost.

[D][D][C] Night Spear: 90 damage. Choose 1 of your opponent’s Benched Pokemon, and this attack also does 30 damage to that Pokemon. (Don’t apply Weakness and Resistance when damaging the Bench.)

Pokemon EX Rule: When Pokemon EX is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

Weakness: Fighting (x2)
Resistance: Psychic (-20)
Retreat: 2

The extra 30 damage could kill babies, and it's main 90 damage could already beat lots of stuff.

Dark Patch - Trainer

Choose a basic Darkness Energy from your discard pile and attach it to one of your Benched Darkness Pokemon.

Get those Special Darkness Energies out and make Darkrai's attack do 120 damage for the donk. Discard the Energies with Junk Arm.


What do you guys think? Anyone willing to create a decklist? Anything else you think would fit with this?
 
Your energy acceration seems inconsistent and a bit luck reliant.

Set 1:

Discard Energy with Junk Arm.

Their are lots of things that could go wrong here, no Junk Arm, no trainers in the discard pile, no Darkness Energy even.

Set 2:

Dark Patch

You need 2 Dark Patches here. 2 shouldn't be hard to get because of Junk Arm, but what if you don't get any at all? You'll just have some dark energy in the discard, and be leaving a EX active.


More problems.

You may be against a Dragon
If your against a Genie, you often won't get the SP dark.
Your opponent has 2 Pokemon

You can only get Basic Energy with Dark Patch. So the maximum you can do without PlusPower would be 100, assuming you attach a Sp. Dark manually.

Other problems include the fact that if you whiff the donk, your Darkrai will eventually be KO'd for 2 prizes.

Also, Dark Patch attaches to a benched Pokémon, so you'd need either a Switch or start with a Pokémon with free retreat to get the donk. So you'd need:

Darkrai
Pokémon with free retreat+Switch or start with a Pokémon with free retreat
3 Darkness Energy, 2 of which must be Basic
1 Junk Arm
2 Dark Patch (Remember, you won't be using your first Junk Arm on a Dark Patch except with Juniper. I guess it COULD be a 1/1 split, but then you'd need to have something to discard with Junk Arm)

That's 8 cards, which is the amount you start with after you draw one for your first turn. You also have a Supporter to use (and if they have a Benched Pokémon with over 30 HP, it MUST be Seeker to get the donk, meaning 9 cards, which isn't possible without extra drawing). So you won't be able to use Seeker.

So you'll probably be using Juniper or Cheren or Bianca for the Supporter, if you draw into one...

Those are too many conditions to meet. You will get 100 damage T1 about a tenth of the time, and that's a generous estimate. You also won't be
able to get a Benched Pokémon with over 30 HP KO'd. Against Dragons/Genies, there's not much you can do.

EDIT: Why not ZPST over this? Only needs Zekrom start/SSU/Switch into Zekrom, Pachi, Shaymin, 3 L energy. Much more manageable, especially with Collector. And it hits more damage, at 120 instead of 100 without PP.
 
1) you already require a lot of things to donk. This is not the perfect world and if you are lucky enough to get everything you do need to donk, it's unlikely you'll get a Pluspower too on top of 3 SP Dark.

2) The deck has no drawpower, so getting one may not be hard, but two or three? Unlikely.

3) To be able to get what you need for the donk, you'll probably have already used a Juniper or PONT.

4) Valid argument.

I also like Unown from UD in this deck. Will help with getting out the energy.
 
I would use Absol prime to attack early game because it costs one less energy, Darkrai for later game, and perhaps a Mew tech to both abuse Absol's attack and to use the attack of something Absol LZed like Tyranitar prime (to finish things on the bench that darkrai has already sniped. Or maybe a Jirachi. But they would require psychic energy :(, it might be better for just Darkrai, and Absol. Or maybe you would have Relicanths, they free retreat thanks to Darkrai, and they also power up mew if you need to. and they are good drawers. (Sorry, I went out brainstorming)

This is crazy. ZPST has already all the tools to make a T1 120/80 and yet it only pulls it off 30-50% of the time and you expect this ton of setup to work? Sorry but no chance bro.
 
to get the extra trainers in discard so you can junk arm you could play pluspower, junk arm, play again and then you can get a OHKO on genies and have drakness energy in discard
 
What about Dragons?

An autoloss to Reshiram and Zekrom would be really bad because they are both highly played.

Now, one alternative is to run Shaymin to basically have a searchable switch, but then you're going to need another benched dark Pokemon.

Furthermore, late-game you have an EX in the active that is a 2-prize liability while ZPST would have Tornadus to prevent your energy from fizzling and still has impressive HP.

I like Darkrai as a card (a little), but I don't like it as a donker.

Actually, it has 9-11. Pachirisu can donk to if needed.

Now that this is over, we don't need to post anymore. FD gets the idea.
 
Just to add for FD, when people shoot down your idea, it's not because we don't like you. It's just that we want to give advice that is credible. If the tone is a bit more strict, it's because it gets the message sent easier.

I almost got that same exact card of Darkrai and the Trainer.

Ha! I'm trying to make a darkrai EX donk.. But in unlimited format.. In modified format this will never work.. Too slow without any good drawing/searching trainers..
