Darkrai/Victini

What's up beach and I just wanted to show you what I might play for Reigonals. I did some meta observations and decided a deck that would fit the overall meta and play a deck I would be rather comfortabe with. Here were my options:

Straight Darkrai
Darkrai/Victini
Darkrai/Garbador
Blastoise

Now the most likely deck was mostly decided by proscess of elimination. These decks are still an option, and I might even post more threads about them. But I have reasoning behind why I wont play these decks. Blastoise is kind of a new concept to me to try and its pretty expensive (Tropical Beach) but I do like the outlook it has on the meta and I can have acsess to beach from a freind. Darkrai/Garbador seems too slow for the tournament structure (if it was just 10 minutes more, this would most likely be my deck of choice) and Im not a big fan of lock decks. Straight Darkrai seems to be still very consistent and a deck I am highly comfortable with but it seems to have poor matchups. So overall, I think Darkrai Victini is the most fitting for me. Let me show you my current list:

Pokemon
  • 3 Darkrai EX
  • 3 Victini EX
  • 2 Sableye
  • 1 Absol

Trainers/Supporters/Stadiums
  • 4 Professor Juniper
  • 3 N
  • 2 Skyla
  • 1 Random Receiver
  • 4 Pokemon Catcher
  • 4 Ultra Ball
  • 4 Dark Patch
  • 4 Hypnotoxic Laser
  • 3 Bicycle
  • 3 Switch
  • 2 Energy Search
  • 2 Enhanced Hammer
  • 2 Dark Claw
  • 1 Victory Piece
  • 2 Virbank City Gym

Energy
  • 2 Fire
  • 8 Dark

The strategy is to get Victini T1 with a V piece or fire energy to turbo energize a Darkrai on the bench and then build up the next with dark patch while you night spear. Im aiming to
make this list as consistent as possible while still being able to keep a decent matchup on the top decks. Any advice would be great!

Edited your post to coincide with the rules! :D ~Kecleon

Why don't you run Prisms/Blends? That + Virizion-EX *get's*(edit) rid of Status Conditions AND gives everyone free Retreat. If you choose not to run Virizion, maybe Keldeo-EX would help to get rid of status conditions. And something else: Victory Piece does NOT work well in Competitive Play, most of it due to the big amount of decks that run Scrapper, and, contrary to G-Booster, can't be retrieved without giving away a turn(In Vir/Gen you recover it with Shadow Triad; here you can ONLY recover it with Junk Hunt). So, my Suggestions:

-4 Dark Energy
+4 Prism/Blend GFPD
-2 Energy Search(you're accelerating energy anyways, so Skyla + Energy Search is the way to go if there's trouble)
+2 Virizion-EX/Keldeo-EX
-1 Hypnotoxic Laser(you can always Junk Hunt for it)
+1 Tropius PLB(AWESOME Blastoise counter and gives you an alternate starter)
-1 Victory Piece
+1 Computer Seach(look at it this way: Skyla->Computer Seach->ANY CARD IN YOUR DECK!)

Prism is not able to be used with dark patch or searchable by Turbo Energize. Virizion EX makes the deck inconsistent, slower, and is not worth the effect that it brings. Keldeo isnt in here because we run switch, genesect destroys it, and we want to start with victini, again just another thing not worth its merit. I use energy search to get a fire energy for turbo energize. Victory piece is there be cause victini is a great attacker itself and destroys VirGen. And in all honesty, tropius will not be that great blastoise counter because the blastoise player will power up BK EX and not the keldeos and go for my darkrais. And plus my Blastoise matchup isnt horrible surprisingly. If I were to take anything from your comment it would be the -1 laser, ive been thinking of this myself.

Oh, sorry about that, I forgot that the point was to Turbo Energize. My bad. ;)

I would need to play around with this deck to really understand how it works, however, adding the blend could give you more options. At this point for your deck could use tropius, as he is an effective non ex attacker for a lot of situations, however, that would hurt consistency, so I would have to play around with that idea.

Tropius is really good, though without reliable grass energy draw for first turn, it really isnt that good. Its best early for return, or mid to late game for energy press. I use tropius a lot in my decks now. But its only consistently good in decks with a enough grass energy. I currently have 5 grass in my dragonite deck with tropius. it seems to be enough, but i would prefer maybe 6 or 7 if i didnt need electric energy.

I understand how Tropius is good, but not really in this deck, I would like to stick with consistent cards and would much rather play Absol as a counter to Blastoise, plus I much rather run a dragon type pokemon since they would charge up BK EX and not Keldeo, and plus the math doesnt even add up, if a keldeo KOs my victini for 3 energy, Tropius would do 80 base damage times by 2 to do 160, it needs a laser to KO Keldeo. If I were to tech for blastoise, it would be baby ray since it corrosponds with my fire energy and shred does a perfect 180 to BK EX since weakness is NOT an effect on the defending pokemon.

The only thing I could think of then, if you don't really want to tech against stuff, is trying to add one more dark energy. Whenever I play darkrai decks, 10 energy never seems to be enough, even with dark patch.

I'm not saying I wont tech for certain matchups, its just tropius doesnt stand its merit in the deck for what its costs, Rayquaza on the other hand can kill BK EX (which is my main target in the matchup), donks squirtles and trubbishes with virbank/laser, goes with fire energy, and can discard dark energy, while taking up deck space and you may get stuck with a useless energy. Tropius does that while it doesn't even OHKO keldeo with 3 energy without a laser and makes for a bad starter. And the lack of energy is consistency issues, because if i have 3 or more energy in my hand, its usually a bad hand andd plus, I usually only need 1 fire and 6 dark on the field.
