Before I start this thread, I want to get something out of the way:
-Do not mention Gengar LV. X
-Do not mention Gengar LV. X
-Do not mention Gengar LV. X
-Do not mention Gengar LV. X
-DO NOT MENTION GENGAR LV. X!!!

Thank you. The next Deck Discussion thread will be posted on Thursday, July 9.

Today's thread will be about Gengar (Stormfront) and Nidoqueen (Rising Rivals). Gengar is one of those cards you take precautions to counter, as its Fainting Spell Power could utterly destroy the Pokemon who KO'd Gengar. Only Special Conditions, damage counters, or effects that return the Pokemon to the deck/hand get around this evil Power. Gengar has two attacks. One can do a 60 snipe to anything with a Power for an energy. The other does 30x the number of Trainers, Supporters, and Stadiums in your hand. Most Gengars focus on the Power Snipe attack, also called Shadow Room. Nidoqueen helps Gengar by getting rid of the main counters to Gengar's Fainting Spell, those being Skuntank G, Uxie, and Crobat G.

In this and any deck discussion thread, the idea is to discuss the deck's possible techs, how it fares in the metagame, what Tier it is in, its counters, a good decklist for the deck, or just discussing the deck in general. Since this thread is about a deck that won Nationals in the Seniors division, you can also discuss why you think it won.

Now...discuss! (And do not mention Gengar LV. X.)

This is defanitly the best way to run gengar as poison can no longer Knock it out and it would take 3 crobat drops to get the knock out.

I think when AA is released, Gengar will become an even bigger pain with the addition of new Gengars. You can now Shadow Room a Claydol and then move the damage counter over to an Uxie and snipe that afterwards.

Gengar Lv.XTee hee.

Yeah, Mother Gengar is one of the best in the format now. Unbelievable speed and power it's not funny. With Nidoqueen, the counters list drops in half. And of course it will pick up steam once AA comes out. I think this could do great at Worlds.

dmaster out.

^^you! i was going to do that :(

well, mother gengar is great in a defensive way, but magic gengar gives an offensive boost.
magic gengar uses the mysterious treasures alakazam to block unown G, then when you block it, you can snipe it the next turn, and your opponent won't be protected by unown G.

but yeah, mother gengar is a great deck.

GENGAR LV.X
^:D

JK, Mother Gengar is very good. I was playing it once and got a decent amount of wins. In my areas at the Master's Division, Mother Gengar is pretty popular. Very good deck, with spread, snipe, revenge, all of the good things. And Nidoqueen can mess up your opponent pretty hard.

its a good deck.
basically forces the activation of fainting spell.
its probably the card nearest to broken this format.
ps there is no sp that is out right broken its the rediculous trainers that make sps any good at all.

GENGAR LV.X
lol

Mother Gengar is probably my favorite way to play Gengar. It just makes Gengar once more versatile.

And when AA is released, it becomes fail It becomes awesome with the new Gengars (and the card I'm not supposed to mention.

Mother Gengar...well, I'm not a fan of *coughgengarlvxcough* playing on Fainting Spell. It makes Gengar from an interesting fun to use card into a lame power having *coughgengarlvxcough* card. That power should've been more akin to...LM Gengar, for instance. That said, it is one of *coughgengarlvxcough* the more strategic decks of the speed decks around. That power *coughgengarlvxcough* is just pretty unfair, and with Nidoqueen forcing it... yeah.

Sorry, I got a really bad cough.

What's sad is that Drapion Lv. X has the ability to take Mother Gengar down if it gets set up (heavy on the if). If you use Derail w/o Special darks or Sniping Tail w/ 2 Special Darks, and flip heads on Tri-Poison, that's 60+30(weakness)=90, -10(Nidoqueen)=80, +30(Tri-Poison)=110.

Death.

Also, if you kill Gengars on the bench, you don't have to worry about Fainting Spell.

I swear, we do NOT change deck names because of a TECH line. -.-

ITS GENGAR WITH NIDOQUEEN! >_>

With a 1-0-1 Queen line and a 2-2 Cress line Gengar is amazing. :)

Shut up about Gengar LV. X!!!

Eh, I wasn't the one to come up with the name. I just put "Mother Gengar" because that's the popular name for it.

Anyway, the only reason I'm against this card is Fainting Spell...like most people. Outside of that, Gengar is good, but not broken. Nidoqueen made Gengar much better, as before Uxies, Crobats and Skuntanks would get around Gengar every time. However, Nidoqueen isn't cool if you are playing against Gengar.

Still, I respect Gengar....unlike another speed "deck" *coughMacheapcough*

I know the one guy pointed it out already, but fainting spell says nothing about Gengar needing to be your active pokemon. they can still use it on the bench as long as they die from "damage done", though if they are ko'd by "placing damage counters on", I believe they're not allowed to use fainting spell.

Hmmm, my bad. I thought it was only active. I guess it's only Dusknoir X that has that. Oh well. Here's another strategy against non-mother Gengar (or Mother Gengar when you have Dialga G Lv. X out): just do spread damage all over the place when 3-4 Gengars are out. If you keep spreading the same amount of damage, you'll end up killing 3-4 Gengars at once. They get 3-4 chances to knock you out, but you take 3-4 prizes and they only take one.

Just a thought.

Hey guys i no this sounds nooby but, if gengar get knocked out by a attack and gets the flip for fainting spell do the apponent get knocked out as well as gengar or does gengar survive.

Cheers :p

Gengar gets knocked out no matter what the flip is for Fainting Spell.
