Ruling Defending TY-X's shockwave markers???

I ran into a deck at my very first tournament this weekend. Everything was looking good and setting up quickly, then he rare candied up to this Tyranitar EX and all hell broke loose... Being new, I never even heard of this kind of attack before. Within a few moves he had my Rayquaza Star, and two Rayquaza EX's off the board right after I powered them up to attack.... I was floored!

Any tips from the gurus if I run into this again??? What can hurt that turkey???

Well, Tyranitar Ex isn't played THAT often. But if you REALLY fear it, then you can opt to tech in one or two copies of Tropius (DF). He removes the markers and as a bonus any special condition you might have - great if you're up against a lot of Flariados in your region.

However, on its own Tropius pretty much fails. Better options include:
- Not evolving your pokémon early on when you see a Larvitar. Evolving gets rid of the markers, so let him mark unevolved pokes and then strike back.
- Mr. Briney's Compassion and Super Scoop Up might protect you
Otherwise, just hit him. Hard. 160 HP is nothing to scoff at and I see you use a Rayquaza build. Tell me, what deck do you play? It might have specific solutions.

This is what I played at the tourney. This was my first tourney and the first deck I ever built. Someone on the site earlier gave me awesome pointers (that I should have followed), but I wanted to see my first attempt would do. 1)My deck didn't seem as fast. 2)I had cards that didn't seem to work well (the stadium & tools). 3)In one of my 4 matches my cards didn't mesh at all and I couldn't draw a card to save my life... 4)I went 1-3 and I beat someone that was as new as I was.

Any tweaks you have will be greatly appreciated, and I will let you know how it works at the next tourney this coming Saturday.

Hmm....needs fixing, that much is certain. I could patch it up to HP-On but lets not.

Anyway, you'll have to look what you want to focus on. Infernape and Rayquaza...myeh, can see it working somehow but...no, not like this. And the Magneton line doesn't really tickle my fancy in this deck either.

I think you should focus on Infernape mainly. However, should you want to work with mainly Rayquaza, I'll need more time for that.

Fellas, I really appreciate all you do for a rookie like me. Let me know if you think this sounds good.

My deck will not be as quick as most of these people at the tournament. Maybe it will be, but the people I played last week knew everything about their deck and next thing I knew I was staring across at a few “EX” cards with 140+HP. After taking you guys advice and thinking…. If I completely take out the 3-3 Magneton/Magnemite group, could I replace it with this group?

3 Vulpix – 3 Ninetales --- If I get in a situation where I’m staring across from a bunch of Pokemon-Ex’s can I use Ninetailes “Safeguard” pokebody (Prevent all effects of attacks, including damage, done to Ninetails by your opponents Pokemon-Ex). If I can somehow have nothing but Ninetails in front of me, does that mean that I can avoid every attack/shockwave marker/condition) that their Pokemon Ex’s could do? Could I wait them out and force them to play me with their basics/non-ex’s?

Yo SSilver, you got any ways of Instant Messenger? Talks a lot easier and I'll be able to help you better if you can provide me with information on your deck and cardpool.
