RE: Dark Blade (Yveltal Ex / Manectric Ex / M Manectric Ex)

Hi folks,

With the loss of Dark Patch Darkness decks became slower. The Manectric line from Phantom Gates would solve this issue. The basic has two decent attacks and can thus substitute Darkai while its evolution accelerates from the discard.

Would be interested in comments on this deck list. Thanks for all the assistance in advance.

RE: Dark Blade (Yveltal Ex / Manectric Ex / M Manectric Ex)

Test some Max Potions, you can get energys back easy with M Manectrick EXs Turbo Bolt :)
I think you doesnt need 2 Yveltal w M Manectrick.

RE: Dark Blade (Yveltal Ex / Manectric Ex / M Manectric Ex)

Hi victiny,

Thanks for the review. Max Potion sound good. Yveltal was chosen to have another basic attacker. Might consider to switch him with Darkrai Ex to allow Yveltal Ex to retreat for free but not sure on it. Any idea on other possible starters?

RE: Dark Blade (Yveltal Ex / Manectric Ex / M Manectric Ex)

I think you doesnt need a "starter". Is good if you get Manectrik start, t1 rush off t2 mega evolve Volt bolt

Hope i help :)

RE: Dark Blade (Yveltal Ex / Manectric Ex / M Manectric Ex)

How about Hydreigon and Malamar EX?

Hydreigon - Dragon - HP140
Stage 2 - Evolves from Zweilous

Ability: Dark Advocacy
Once during your turn (before your attack), you may choose 1 [D] Energy from your discard pile and attach it to your Active Pokemon.

[P][D][C][C] Crazy Heads: 130 damage. Discard 1 Energy attached to this Pokemon.

Weakness: Fairy (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 2

Malamar-EX - Darkness - HP170
Basic Pokemon

Ability: Powerful Hypnosis
Once during your turn (before your attack), when you attach an Energy card from your hand to this Pokemon, you may use this Ability. Your opponent's Active Pokemon is now Asleep.

[D][C] Calamari MAX: 60x damage. Flip a coin for each Energy attached to this Pokemon. This attack does 60 damage times the number of heads.

When a Pokemon-EX has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

Weakness: Fighting (x2)
Resistance: Psychic (-20)
Retreat: 2

RE: Dark Blade (Yveltal Ex / Manectric Ex / M Manectric Ex)

I think the Yveltals are needed because people still play Suicune and stuff so you still need non-EX attackers. If not Yveltal than maybe Absol but I think Yveltal can be used more often. Also maybe consider teching a SeismitoadEX in there- it's a decent starter and can also save you late game.

RE: Dark Blade (Yveltal Ex / Manectric Ex / M Manectric Ex)

Hi victiny,

Thanks for the review. Manectric Ex and Yveltal Ex are indeed the ideal starters since both can hit fast and hard. the main reason for an addition basic was that six Pokémon often result in mulligans. The deck also would have no means to combat Safe Guard Pokémon without a small non-Ex basic line. If it were not for Safe Guard I would even consider to run four each to ensure that the deck does not mulligan too much and has ideal starts.

Hi bwpple,

Thanks for the review. I considered Malamar Ex. Powerful Hypnosis would work well with Laser and a few Energy Switch as a disabler but a non-Ex Basic Pokémon would be better to handle Safe Guard. With Malamar the deck would have no means to handle Safe Guard. I also considered to run quad Manectric Ex and Yveltal Ex but for the reason mentioned above I hesistated to take that route. I am not a fan of Hydreigon since it is a stage two Pokémon which slows the deck down. It would also be hard to evolve under item lock. Manectric Ex and M Manectric Ex seemed to be more stable and take less resources to accelerate and attack same time.

RE: Dark Blade (Yveltal Ex / Manectric Ex / M Manectric Ex)

Hi Carpey,

Thanks for the review. Seems I missed in last time I responded to previous reviewer. Yveltal was the first non-Ex basic that came to mind. Zekrom would be the other alternative I considered. Both have their benefits but I sort of dislike their retreat cost. I also considered Thundurus and Tornados as alternate non-Ex attackers. Absol did not come to mind and would be another alternative. The main benefit of the latter three would be their lower retreat cost compared to Yveltal and Zekrom. Still unsure which of the aforementioned non-Ex attackers (Thunduros, Tornadus, Zekrom, Yveltal or Absol) would be best.

Just double checking, your referencing Tornadus Hurricane right? I'm kind of just assuming since, FFI Tornadus is extremely situational and really just not that great. Also the Trainer Count is 38.

I made an incredibly similar deck leading up to and now with the release of Phantom Gate. Almost eerily so. I, too, love this concept. My EX line is identical but I went with 1 baby Yveltal and 1 Absol instead of Tornadus to combat Safeguard Pokemon, which I think will continue to be popular thanks to Gengar EX and Donphan.

I'm currently experimenting with dropping LaserBank (wasn't getting a ton of OHKOs anyway) for just a couple Shadow Circle (more of a counter stadium than anything) to make room for Enhanced Hammers. I also run an Xerosic and Pokemon Fan Club to help with Seismitoad and low Pokemon counts, respectively. I have a couple one-of that you don't like Max Potion and Professor's Letter (I run two less energy).

Oh, one last thing: Battle Compressor. I run two of these to help me get energy/supporters in the discard pile so I can Turbo Bolt the energy onto my bench, or VS Seeker a Lysandre/Sycamore in a time of need. Something definitely worth considering.

So far I've really been enjoying playing with it. Besides a few dead draws I've been mostly successful. Curious to see what other kinds of improvements can be made. Good luck!
