Do folks still collect JP cards?

Yikes! That seems like a lot of cards to still need after opening four booster boxes :(.

Are there many people who sell Japanese booster boxes and ship for free? I purchased a Korean Hail Blizzard booster box on eBay from a seller who shipped it for free. He was selling (BIN and auction) a lot of Korean booster boxes that all came with free international shipping.

Indeed I wasn't very happy with the Boxes :(
I did complete the set but this was an expensive one.

I always have to pay for the shipping but they Boxes are here in just over a week.

When buying from Japan, you can pay to have the items shipped fast, but it costs more, or you can have the items shipped slower for cheaper.

Here is some very useful info:

If you ask a seller on Ebay that is from Japan to switch shipping methods I'm sure they will agree. SAL tends to be the best option as it is fast and cheap compared to most of the rates.

Just wondering, where do you buy Japanese cards? I was wondering because I want to start collecting them and I have no clue where to look.

I do most of my shopping on AmiAmi. They only sell current or recently released cards and merch, but the prices are pretty good and they have an English language version of their site, so it's very easy for international orders.

I'd say I "collect" them. I buy them with the intent of finishing each set, but normally only get a single box plus whatever comes from packs from promo packs. I still haven't bought any singles/loose packs/traded/whatever.

I'd like to collect the promos if I lived in Japan so I could get them directly from the campaigns and what-not, but the only way to get them is to buy them right out, which is effectively the same boring way as just collecting the English ones. (Which you pretty much just buy outright, there's no store offers or throws-in with other Pokemon merchandise)

I collect Japanese cards, I love the promos - they are actually that, promotional cards.

I feel like so many of the english promos aren't interesting at all, especially after the Black Star ones.

I collect Japanese cards almost exclusively (I still collect ENG promos too for fun). I think all the key points were hit about how to collect by others, my only advantage is I have some Japanese family so it's a bit easier to get stuffed shipped to them in japan then pick up the whole lot next time someone travels here or there.

When a new set comes out in japan the prices are even more drastic compared to the way we value cards. Like when NXD came out mewtwo was $50 and shaymin ex might go for $10 or so. Well when freeze bolt was out in Japan the most playable card (Bianca SR) was about $50 and then Celebi EX was sold for $2... even some of the holos were going for a lot more than the EX card... seemed odd to me. I briefly considered buying a stack of like 15 celebi EX and selling them on ebay for $10 a pop here, but didn't have the cash that day haha.

To the more experienced, or veteran collectors, would you say you could make a decent return with the Japanese cards? I'm gaining interest in collecting, but the English cards seem a bit boring.. The Japanese cards all look amazing, and look like better quality, but I'm also wondering if you can make some money off of the rarer cards..?

From my experience, the money in Japanese cards lies in Ultra Rares and Promos (the rarer ones at least).

In terms of the recent BW sets (and assuming buying and selling in America), it seems like Japanese FAs and Shinies go for much more than their English counterparts. I also seem to have much better luck with Japanese pulls, but that could just be luck.

I collect whenever possible (but when it doesn't bankrupt me).

Current sets I'm trying to complete include:
Movie 12 Commemoration set (missing about 4 cards from this)
Dragon Selection (missing a couple of cards from this)
Any and all promos

I also started collecting Japanese recently. I'll agree that the quality of the cards seem higher and while I first didn't like how few cards you got in a pack, the pulls definitely seem better. So far, I'm enjoying it.

You get fewer cards in a pack, yeah, but the cards you get less of are the commons and uncommons you'd end up with tonnes of anyway. Also, their ratios mean that uncommon cards are actually, well, uncommon. Rare rates are definitely better (approx. a 1/2 chance of getting sometime of rare in any given pack). I've noticed that you tend to pull less trainers than you do in English packs (potentially not true, as this is just one person's personal observations, not a researched trend), but you also get good trainers and special energy in their preconstructed decks. In general, the Japanese preconstructed decks are quite a bit better than the ones we get in English anyway, often coming with cards only released in those decks, so it's not very difficult to get the cards you'd want to play.

In short, I'm very fond of the Japanese release system. >_>

If you start trading, you can list involvement at http://www.pokebeach.com/forums/thread-non-english-card-traders-please-read-if-you-have-foreign-cards

I am still trying to get enough interest for a Foreign Merchandise zone.

I only have 3 or 4 japanese cards. I would like to collect but I avoid buying anything not from europe, otherwise I have to waste a lot of money in shipping costs...

I understand.

Have you looked at shipping cost direct from Japan? I had 4 boxes shipped for 1590 yen, if I calculated right, about $20.67.

AmiAmi's shipping page has some generalized information on shipping rates to different countries. Obviously, they may vary slightly depending on specifics, but it gives you a good idea, at least. As a frame of reference, my last package from them was 2 booster boxes and 2 precon decks, which was in the "up to 0.8kg" category. For that category, shipping to Europe ranges from ¥880-¥2400, which comes out to €9-€24*, with the more expensive options being faster and/or more secure. The full chart can be found on their website. It's really very reasonable, especially when you consider that their prices are actually at or lower than Japanese MSRP, whereas buying imported Japanese goods from America or another country often increase the price quite a bit.

* - Please keep in mind that, depending on the total value and your country, you may also have to pay customs fees (not included in your shipping costs), though I never have for any of my shipments.
