you don't have to, but it is a lot simpler if you do have it...as for finding, just do a search in google for Hamachi...it's a VPN (Virtual Private Network)

do you have to download it and if you do does it cost anything?

how does it work? is it a different system to play the game or is it part of redshark?

No, it is a different system. As stated before, all Hamachi does is give you access to online play.

so it's only a network? sorry for all the questions and for PokeChamp having to answer all of them XP. Thanks for all the help!

I think you got it. Your welcome!

You can play online without a network I don't understand why you couldn't just as long as you and your opponent have no router/firewall issues

You do not need Hamachi.
You need to start the game within 30 seconds of each other, i.e. you need to talk in real time. And you need to know your IP numbers.

You can play online without Hamachi, by replacing its functions with other free online services, such as xat.com (IMHO, xat.com would be better to use than Hamachi, as there is no limit to the number of ppl in a chat room) and http://whatismyipaddress.com/

Hamachi is free to download. If it wasn't, it wouldn't be recommended.

I don't get it...again. Can you play online without hamachi or xat or anything else? Can I just download redshark and play online?

Theoretically, yes, you can. But it is impractical.
Both you and your opponent need to click "Start" within 30 seconds of each other, and you need to know who is hosting and who is the guest. The guest needs to know the IP address of the host to connect to.

Think of it like a sniper rifle and a scope. You don't technically "need" the scope to shoot a small faraway target, but you just won't hit it reliably without one. Hamachi is one good scope, but there are others you can use.

As I said, you need to talk to your prospective opponent in real time, and to know your/their IP address. Redshark does not provide such functionality. Hamachi does. You can replace Hamachi with other, similar services, but you do need the type of service it provides.

Hamachi does not intertwine with Redshark or anything like that. It's just a chat room program that gives you an IP address. You can use any other chat room instead if you like, but you do need a chat room.

are there any certain rooms on hamachi which are used by many redshark users? i'm new hhere, so sorry if this question seems unneccessary^^
