Secret Pikachu said:No one buys cards for me (I'm in the Masters division). It seems like you have to part with a lot of money in order to play competitively in this game.
With that said, you could only buy the cards that you need for the deck you want to run (plus the cards you'll need for the inevitable changes you make to the deck) and make proxies for every other deck that you want to test against. That would save a lot of money .

cf11 said:It is a big deal as in it makes players who don't have it have less of a chance against someone who does. I understand there are replacements (Mewtwo and Tornadus EX although Rayquaza is better for what it does), but not having it for regionals and BR (assuming there are CP) can really hurt your chances against someone who does have it and it just kills Garchomp which is going to become popular and it also kills tynamo. Yes I understand we will get it in the next set, but you could be missing out on some CP early on in the year that could hurt your chances of a worlds invite if it comes down to the last few points for the invite at the end of the season. I'm just upset a 13 year old would have to spend $100 on 1 card!!
I'm not even playing a deck that requires it and yes I realize Garchomp is terrible after I tested it for about 50 games. I was just making a point for the general senior who has to drop a lot of money to enjoy something they love. I'm playing Garbodor this year so I don't actually need it. Also in testing with it it's good not amazing so Rayquaza definitely is getting too much hype.SotS said:Except it doesn't give people a better chance. Not every deck out there plays the card, so it's simple, play a different deck if the one you had in mind for some reason requires Rayquaza.
Garchomp is a good deck but lately all I've heard is that it's not all it was cracked up to be, no worries about that. Also the more Rayquazas that would be out there would just drop the population of said Garchomp decks due to worry. Which would in turn drop the "need" for Rayquaza.
And I was thirteen whenever I played LuxChomp. And let me tell you, Luxrays were expensive. I wasn't upset though, it makes no sense to be. Upset that I'm paying for a hobby I chose? That's just nonsense. And besides, no one said you have to spend the money.
