@Keeper of Night I remember that I can take actions while moving around and try to see what's in the pit without falling in.
Vulpix examines the area around them. She notices the pine trees in the immediate vicinity have... Larger roots than what would be considered normal, poking out of the ground. Did that mean anything?
Spoink again hops toward the pit, leaving the group behind, but not out of sight.
Looking down carefully she can make out strangely-shaped figures moving around at the bottom.
Frightened, she quickly hops back toward the group.
The sun must be setting, the sky overhead is getting darker. The wind is beginning to pick up, and the clouds signal rain. Deciding it's too late now to find nearby shelter, the group decides to press on toward the mountain.
Ya'll decide now of all times to be boring? Aww. Moving ahead then.
After leaving the forest, and being thrown into an unknown world, the lost group of Pokemon had one destination in their mind from the start. A large mountain rising in the distance seemed the best place to figure out where they were. If nothing else, the height of their chosen goal would keep them from getting lost.
After a long day's walk, they were at last nearing it. They had ignored any and all other distractions and now, the homestretch lay before them. They had reached the edge of the mountain range, which, at its center, lay their destination.
Looking up they realized, despite how close they were, they still had some work before them.

YOUR GOAL: Reach the Highest Peak
And so they began to climb. These smaller peaks would be much easier to traverse, but a good number lay between them and the distant mountain.
Once they reached the top, they found the area to be much colder and covered in much more snow than they had previously thought. But all around them, the view was a sight to behold.
However, the sun had now completely set. The area around them was too dark to be safe for travel. And it was cold. The Pokemon in the group that weren't naturally adjusted to the weather were finding it difficult to keep up. They needed to find shelter.
Before them lay the next peak, just a short distance higher than the one they were on currently. However, in the light that Litwick was able to cast off, they could make out an outcropping! Was it another cave? In the side of the next peak. There didn't seem to be anything (or anyone) around it, but there was no way to be certain unless they decided to get closer.
If not... Their only option was to begin climbing back down. But it was dark, and that wasn't a safe option either.
