Eevee ex has just been revealed as the first card from Terastal Festival! The set was previewed in a Japanese commercial featuring various TCG products.
Terastal Festival will release in Japan on December 6th. Thanks goes to Toine L. for the translation!
Eevee ex – Colorless – HP200
Basic Pokemon
Tera: As long as this Pokemon is on your Bench, prevent all damage done to this Pokemon by attacks (both yours and your opponent’s).
Ability: Rainbow DNA
You can play Pokemon ex that evolve from Eevee onto this Pokemon to evolve it. (You can’t evolve this Pokemon during your first turn or during the turn you play it.)
[R][W][L] Quartz Shine: 200 damage.
Pokemon ex rule: When your Pokemon ex is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize...

I guess my friendship with Astral Radiance Eevee will continue since he has the better ability.
Wait. It is quite probable that the new Eeveevolutions ex will have abilities or attack effects that will only work if it has evolved from Eevee ex. Otherwise why would you play a basic 2-prizer just to evolve it when there are non-ex Eevees?

Other possibility is having more than 4 Eevee with the ex and a normal one, so you can have more Eeveevolutions in play.

I'm kinda disappointed that they're all Stellar Tera cards, imo it would've been better to let them all (except maybe Eevee) have a regular Tera type different from their usual type.
I really hope we'll still get Tera cards with Rock, Poison and Flying Tera Jewels at some point, but the chances of that are getting very slim, especially if Tera cards are getting retired once Owner's ex cards show up.

Don't forget the new one in Surging Sparks. Probably want a mix between these two until the Astral one rotates.

I was thinking the same as you when I saw Eevee ex. But then I saw the bigger picture whilst in the shower lol. As the person above pointed out, you can use both Eevee and Eevee ex, making some Eeveelution hybrid deck possible. Area Zero works beautifully with the ex being a tera. There is also something else very useful about Eevee ex...and that is Glass Trumpet.

Did you notice this is Tera? Before this you had to evolve Eevee before you can play Glass Trumpet. Now you play 1 Eevee ex and put it on the your bench to play Glass Trumpets to power up regural Eevees before evolve them

You won't replace all your non ex Eevees with this just 1 to get Glass Trumpet active

I think it have a benefit have a 200 hp basic rather than the fragiles 70hp Eevees, plus bench protection, so they cant get dumped as easily

I was thinking the same, having surging sparks active to evolve it which actives the astral one's ability to be evolve. For tera pokemon, I would most likely go with cornerstone since it is a good tera that is protected from a lot of mons

You don't need ogerpon as Eevee is a tera and all it's eeveelutions will also probably be tera

I'm honestly baffled by the ability, just sounds pointless to restrict the ex from evolving like this when you have ability blockers in format. Maybe if it had more than 200HP then you could argue it could be a tank option for setup but there's too many in format that can easily hit that on turn 1.

Probably just better off running buddy poffin and <70 HP eevees

Edit: forgot about the new eevee in surging spark, that evolves right when you put it into play. Just use that and glass trumpet

Missed opportunity to have Eevee and the 8 Eeveelutions type-shift into the 9 types missing from their family.

Based on what happened to VMAX post-VSTAR, I think we'll still see Tera cards in the next regulation just far less frequently, especially since SV will still be the most recent games for a while + Paldean Owner's ex have a decent chance of being Terastallized.

The phrasing on Eevee ex's Ability seems more open-ended than Eevee-GX's. Is it compatible with cards like Salvatore, or do we run into "evolves into" ≠ "evolves from" issues?

I mean yeah the idea of evolving from a 2-prize liability instead of a 1-prize liability that can evolve more efficiently may seem counterintuitive, but Eevee ex is much bulkier so it isn't gonna get amped for 2 anyway, AND it has built in damage immunity on the bench. Maybe not the greatest card in the world but a way to get more Eevees that can evolve into whatever onto the board

They really could've done something more with this concept, now we're probably not even gonna get a new card for Sylveon, it'll likely either get the existing card with new artwork or just a straight up copy.

And yeah that's a fair point, I just hope we'll also see Tera cards that aren't Stellar because we haven't seen new ones in a while.
