Electivire lv.50, Electivire lv.46, Ampharos lv.52 - Attack rulings and questions.

[/size] My friend contacted a Pokemon judge and asked him about Electivire [Secret Wonders], Electivire [Diamond and Pearl], and Ampharos [Secret Wonders]. Electivire from Secret Wonders has an attack named Discharge. Discharge reads "Discard all Lightning/Electric energy attached to Electivire. Flip a coin for each Lightning/Electric energy you discarded. This attack does 50 damage times the number of heads. Electivire from Diamond and Pearl has an attack named Giga Impact. Giga Impact reads "You may discard all Lightning/Electric energy attached to Electivire. If you do, this attack's base damage is 120 instead of 60. And last but not least is Ampharos from Secret Wonders. Ampharos' attack is Cluster Bolt. Cluster Bolt reads "You may discard all Lightning/Electric energy attached to Ampharos. If you do, this attack does 20 damage to each of your opponent's Benched Pokemon[/size] that has any energy cards attached to it. (Don't apply weakness and resistance for benched pokemon)" And The main question is, if I had a Double Rainbow Energy or a Holon's Castform attached to any of those pokemon, would it get discarded? The PUI rules team made a ruling on Electivire [Secret Wonders] that if I used discharge, that I did not have to discard the Double Rainbow/Holon's Castform. Would that ruling go with the other Electivire and Ampharos as well? Yes, you have to discard any energy card providing the energy type that the attack tells you to discard, that goes for both electivires and ampharos and any other pokemon that discards.

Unless the attack says that you have to discard basic energy cards, in that case DRE, Holon Castform or scramble energy are not discarded, because they are not basic energy cards.

BTW, there is a Errata on Electivire SW, it must be flip a coin for each energy card discarded(so you only flip 1 coin instead of 2 if you discard DRE).
 
Any ideas on how someone might use a deck as such? Always discarding energies and so on....
 
Electivire can get back the Energies it discards, there is a deck called Speedvire, where it beenifits from discardingf and getting back the Energy from Elevtivire's power.
 
Speedvire, eh? I think i'm currently running a deck like that. I usually have a good chance to deck out. And with using the Electabuzz from DF's PokePower "Power of Evolution" drawing a card from the bottom of my deck, as long as Electabuzz is an evolved pokemon. Works pretty nice, saying that Electivire from DP needs to have en Elekid to use "Intense Voltage"
