Electrifying Old Archetypes With Surging Sparks

Hey PokeBeach readers! Our Stellar Crown format is coming to a close, and we have seen a plethora of decks see success in the format. I think it is awesome that there are almost ten decks that I could see taking down a major event any weekend! The other PokeBeach writers and I have done a great job breaking down those decks in the Stellar Crown format, and I think that analysis will stay pretty relevant to our new Surging Sparks format. Today I thought I’d look ahead to that Surging Sparks format and show you what I’ve been cooking!
Surging Sparks is now released, and we are about to get a plethora of cards to help shake up the meta! Similar to Stellar Crown, I don’t think the set is going to make a new Tier S deck, but I think there are a lot of cards that can bolster current meta decks or can make up completely new decks that can challenge some of the current mainstays of our format. Hey Ciaran, huge Shift Gear fan here (and I always appreciate your articles as well).

As a Lugia player, how do you expect Surging Sparks to affect Lugia's place in the meta? I keep hearing other Lugia players talk about how they're reconsidering bringing Lugia to Sac and I'm thinking of cutting Enhanced Hammer in slow NAIC-style Gardevoir for a third Vessel or a Rare Candy. Would you expect Lugia to have similar representation to the 10 percent or so it's been tracking at? Or would you consider dropping the Hammer?

Why do most modern Miraidon decks I've run into use Magneton but do nothing with them other than use them fill bench space? Are they scared of giving up prizes without much payoff like Dusknoir?

You only pop it if you need to. No need to unnecessarily risk losing to Briar.

Was using my Iron Thron deck, totally got wipe out by this deck. Them sacrifing 1 prize magneton for full recharge is quite terryfing for ex decks with 300 hp or lower

And directly the next match I saw another Pika variant, this time with Regi full bench, no drawback for energy charging as long as you have the full regi set, they added latias ex for zero retreat
